The tuning keys are not Gibson nor are the control knobs. The body is too thin. The screw on the selector switch is hexagonal. The pole pieces on the pickups are facing the wrong way. And Gibson used cream, not white for the pickguard, the mounting rings and the poker chip. And the headstock... Single-ply binding. The inlays aren't inlaid. That's a silkscreen. And the font on the truss rod cover is wrong. Sorry, dude. It's a fake.

Its a fake Gibson. Headstock logo is canted to the right, typical of chibsons. The truss rod cover is also incorrect. Fret nibs, pickup ring screws.... The list goes on and on. Plus your disclaimer is a giveaway. Just raises suspicions right off the top. Nice try kid.

That beautiful Les Paul is a true relic. Your father must have loved that guitar. Keep it, love it & treasure it. What a great guitar. Love it as your dad must have. If you take good care of that guitar, it will serve you well for a lifetime and go up in value. Once again, that guitar is beautiful, treasure it. You won't be sorry even if you never play it. I know this from experience, as I own a few Les Pauls myself. I got some of them from my parents and bought some of them myself. I love them one & all.

The truss rod cover screws are right for Gibson. Only two. All copies that I have ever seen have tree screws in a triangle. Can't see well enough in bad light to tell. If it has been in the family that long I doubt it a fake. May have been customized by owner some. Maybe do another video in better light would help. Never sell this guitar I think it might be a Gibson. Wouldn't sell it anyway. Take it to a expert and they will tell you. There's no way people can tell if it real or not from the light and dirt and crud from decades in storage. Do a follow up -. I'm curious. You could restore it yourself to playing condition. Not really hard.

Had the opportunity to actually hold a original Les Paul un playable but all original brought back by a friends father my friend part owned a guitar shop triple humbucca custom Les Paul it was unplayable but in mint condition still worked the strings were that old they were basically black apparently very very rare and now can fetch then over a 100k 100% authentic guitar with serial numbers it was a dark dark black custom black beauty 58 triple humbucca all tuning pegs worked everything was in good condition just someone in America was selling it for next to nothing not realising the guitar sitting in the case for several decades was actually worth a fortune my friends father had guitar shops himself and knew what he was looking for in the states a original 68 Pink Paisley Fender telecaster he picked up for dirt cheap both cost him a couple grand both built in those years 58 and 68 original guitars with serial numbers and verified today those two would be worth a absolute fortune

@davidhall-464011 күн бұрын
If it's real or fake isn't important. It's a family heirloom and you play good. Get it fixed up. Top carve doesn't look right for a Gibson. Also the binding on customs, which this one is emulating, is 5-ply. If you wanna go all balls out: slap some grover locking tuners on there, completely gut the electonics, replace with quality pots/input-jack/and toggle-switch, get new pickups (I'd suggest duncan, gibson brand, or bareknuckles), put a bone-nut put on it, have someone properly set it up, and work on frets if sharp over neck. If you do all that I'd say you're looking at around 500-600 bucks. And you're gonna have a family heirloom AND awesome one of a kind guitar that'll rival a real gibson.

1. Sounds like you can play decently. Fix it up and play the heck out of it….. 2. It was your fathers…..do not give it away or sell it….at least just yet… 3. Find a way to get it to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville….or call them to speak with a technician about it…need serial number off back of headstock…they are trustworthy and will give you the lowdown on the guitar…it may be worth some serious cash (still don’t sell it) it will only go up in value…any $$$ you put into it, you will get back…. 4. Any questions, let me know…. I will try answering….preace Cryll…..
@starry65897 күн бұрын
@@cryllonfire09 You should take another video of it! Clean it up a bit and try and get more of the guitar to show up like the back of it or the tuners I think it might be a fake since the diamond on the headstock is a bit off.. Update: I belive it's a fake, the burst seems a bit unusual, there are no gaps between the pickups, the diamond shape on the headstock is the other way around than most Les Paul Customs.. if I had to guess it's maybe japanese les paul copy from the 70's which are really cool guitars!

It's not a real gibson. Fretboard is too light for a custom's ebony. Inlays appear to be acrylic, not mother of pearl. And the fit/finish appears off. However, old gibson knock-offs are known to be good guitars. Matter of fact the first Les Paul Slash was known for playing was a fake gibson, as was the one from oasis. Get it set-up and replace the pots and it'll probably be great.
@Peter-ff1tp11 күн бұрын
Old Gibsons didn’t have MOP inlays in the fretboard. It’s an acetate product, made in Italy. That’s why they shrank over time. Historic Makeovers still sources theirs from the original factory Gibson did. And, real ebony is very, very rarely black. Most of the “ebony” you see has been dyed.
@davidhall-464011 күн бұрын
@Peter-ff1tp I was aware of ebony not always being pitch black, but still, that is not ebony lol. As far as the inlays, I did not know that, thank you for the info. If you believe this is real, I've got an authentic '59 les paul to sell you 😉

Judging by the pickup selector switch and volume and tone knobs along with the truss rod cover and colouring for the Gibson logo I would say this looks fake. Would need to see the serial number to confirm.
