Hey I am doing a trip up to Helen soon for a fishing trip. How deep is the water in this area you are fishing?

To hide from predators they will nearly always be in water ~3ft deep or deeper!!

Lower half of the tailwater - there are many lesser known access points so don't be afraid to hit the trails and find your own quiet piece of the river!

This time of year you can fish without waders no problem! It'll be a bit chilly at first but you'll get used to it! Come out to the next Bugs And Suds at Alpharetta Outfitters, likely next Wednesday but you'll have to check their social media, and I'll be happy to answer any questions you have!

Thanks a ton John, I will try to mention my fly patterns more often in my videos!! I use the same handful of patterns so often I forget that it can be helpful for people to see the patterns I use. As far as locations, I’ve tried to limit my “spot burning” as far as mentioning smaller waters specifically online but am always happy to point someone in the right direction who doesn’t know where to start! One of the greatest enjoyments I’ve found in the adventure is finding the fish myself after some research or putting boots on the ground! Shoot me an email or private message if you ever have any questions ! [email protected] - thanks for watching!!

what flyrod and reel are you using ?
@madfishinskillz
@madfishinskillz 11 ай бұрын
This is a 10ft 3wt Syndicate p2 or p6 I believe. Had it about 6 years or more and it's been great despite my beating! The reel is a Guideline Haze V2 reel that is so old it's drag doesn't work anymore - definitely going to need a new reel eventually but I'll use it until I'm forced to use something else! Thanks for watching!

what kind of rod/reel do you use - or prefer to use the most. I fish tenkara, but would love to get into traditional fly fishing like this. I fish the 'hooch too btw!
@madfishinskillz
@madfishinskillz Жыл бұрын
I have an old Syndicate P2 fly rod I believe is the model , the reel is an obscure brand rarely seen over here and mostly sold in Europe which is a Guideline Haze V2 large arbor reel. I would highly recommend a 10ft 3wt, there’s a number of great brands in different price ranges but my friends enjoy using other rods of the same size like the Echo Shadow 2! I’ve even considered an 11ft 2 wt to be able to get more reach and handle lighter tippet which would be sweet for the open river! As long as you get the right length and wt you will be well on your way towards making some great drifts and getting those flies down in the water column!! Let me know if I can help with anything else or if you want advice on a certain rod you’re looking at! Tight lines and thanks for watching!!

@@madfishinskillz thank you very much for all the insight! So much for me to learn but I’m excited to start. I’m going to look into that Echo Shadow 2. There is a fly shop I like called Fish Hawk that I was thinking about visiting to look at rods and gear.

@@dallasbryan2484 you are most welcome!! The owner of the FishHawk, Gabe , is a fantastic euro nympher and taught me a great deal at a Team USA Youth fly fishing clinic right after they’d returned from winning gold in international competition. That would be a great place to check out some rods and talk to the staff, especially Gabe Wittosch! If you have an Instagram, give my account a follow as I plan to host some free euro nymphing clinics for small groups at some point in the near future and will make an announcement ! 👍

Thank you very much!!! One of the biggest detriments to the wild brown trout is the fact that right after they spawn the COE usually releases full-flow to get energy for the holiday demand….but that also silts over the brown trout eggs. I’ve got a bad feeling we are in for another turbulent winter - hit the river while you can!! Thanks for watching!

It ended up being so much footage taking up so much storage space that I've had to get an additional hard drive in order to save all of the clips and move footage around for editing. I figured it was time to go ahead and get a new video out but I will be breaking down those clips soon in hopes of a complete video or 2!! Thanks again!
