My friend had a green pinto that he tried to make a low rider. It had lime green diamond tux interiors. I don’t think he ever finished it and not sure what ever happened to that ugly car.

I went to see the library screening last Saturday and it was a great flashback since I was part of this scene in the Mission. After going to the movie I was wondering how and why this Chinese kid got into this lifestyle. Well, bc most of my friends were Latin or Blacks and after the Blvd. Nights movie most of my Latin friends got into the cholo scene over night, so I did the same and didn’t know back then that you had to be Latin or Native American to be a cholo. So I was kind of look at as a joke by the other Latin cholos back then. Now after 40 years later it’s more acceptable to be into low riders of you were not latin, but not back then. You have to understand that the average cholo or chola was btwn. 15 to 22 and kids were not mature enough yet in young adult bodies. Especially if the street and that culture taught you to be tough and hard. Oh and the neighborhood gangs or Barrios divided everyone, instead of uniting all the Latinos. So you could be in certain parts of SF bc someone would get in your face and say “where you from???” And cause ahyt. Anyway, I told a few ppl. like Roberto Hernandez that I was Felino’s first costumer when Jose and Robert was opening and still painting their vintage clothing store on 18th. & Mission in 78 or 79. I don’t think they were targeting the cholos and cholas as customers but I told a lot of ppl. at Mission High and before you knew it, all the cholos shipped there. They even opened another store on 24th. St. and that store took off, I didn’t know this documentary was made in 2010 bc when Roberto said in the movie he was 50 years old, I was like these guys are the youngest bc I’m 60. But I guess he’s now 64 years old since the moxie came out 14 years ago. Lol! One love and how it should be in the Mission neighborhood from all backgrounds and nationalities. Bc the Mission had a large mix of different cultures and nationalities and not only Latinos I know this bc when i went to Everett jr. high and Mission High the various students of all backgrounds reflected the Mission district. Everett Jr. High was even nominated for the most diverse school when I was going the from 77 to 78. Mr. Chino SFM

Blvd nights my favorite cholo movie.
@jacknjill30005 ай бұрын
That movie started the cholo scene in the SF Mission. I remember seeing it at the Grand with my friends and all the sudden everyone wanted to dress like the ppl. on the movie. Even I got into the cholo scene with my Latin friends and I’m Chinese. Didn’t know back then the cholo scene was only for Latina and native Americans. But after 45 years. things are a little different now, but by 18-19 yrs old, I got out and changed and maybe why I’m still alive bc it was getting violent and crime and drugs came into the scene.
