They were trying to make a uk legal version of course, it might not make sense as a slip joint but it’s trying to make the original legal with minimal change…I know you know this but it’s a bit of a daft criticism knowing that. The lack of gimping on the choil is a shame but the price compared to the UKPK is exceptional imo. Just purchased 6 as a Christmas present for my work colleagues who use stanleys and lose them and leave them all over the place very often open. They can keep these in their pockets and will hopefully look After them. 👍🏻

So 3 years on now... has the UK passed a law for mandatory boxing gloves in public yet? You know, since they're so afraid of potentially harmful "weapons"? :p

I bought the centre drive primarily because it offers one-handed blade, pliers and screwdriver deployment single handed. The sheath offers a space to store additional bit drivers which is handy.

Can the washers be replaced with bearing washers?
@MarlonOwnsYourCake

It turns out the double washers go on either side of the little flathead screwdriver. Thanks for making this video! I decided i want to replace the knife on the powerlitre with the powerpint file (and maybe modify the awl to make it totally tsa friendly) and this is video is the only thing I've seen showing how to take the tools out! So don't be discouraged by all the people who said they made theirs non-locking without taking it apart

I’m split with my XM. I love it on bearings, but my brain says run it on washers. So I just switch back and forth to appease my overthinking hahaha

I have the center drive and Leatherman surge. A lot of times the bit is too long on the center drive to get in tight areas. The surge is way more comfortable in the hand. I wish both tops had a detent at 45 and 90 degrees on the drivers to make them more versatile. The Leatherman has a better knife than any multi tool I’ve ever used. I have used both of these tools as edc for my industrial Maintenance technician job. I would say the Gerbers that you are comparing to the Leatherman aren’t an apples comparison. I had a skeletool that was worse than the signal except for the knife.

Very thorough review. I also modified the bottle opener into a flat head screwdriver. I also modded the scissors so they open further and ground down their tips into a fine point. I also sharpened the can opener and removed the tip. It opens up cans now and I can carve a spoon with the sharp edge as well. My newer Power Pint plyers tip meets at the end, so that can also function as a powerful tweezers. I was able to sharpen the hook edge as well. I buffed all the tools so they all shine brightly.

Can I un do the assisted part? Take the spring out?
@echoededge6669
@echoededge6669 5 ай бұрын
The problem with doing that is the sprig also works as the detent. So if you remove the spring there’s nothing to prevent the blade falling open

Got this the other day, blooming LOVE IT, I prefer the thick stock gives it a premium feel and more reassuring. Most definitely needs jimping on spine also on the choil, that would have been amazing, also a little stopper on choil edge as it feels a little sharp.

The sound at 12:48 will keep me awake tonight... I think the bearing tracts will not be the same after this. It might feel ok after cleaning, but it will not be as good as before the test imo.

Great hack Whenever I’m dissaembling multi tools I make a pin that goes through the tools but is no wider than the space between the sides Then assemble the blade stack complete with spacers etc on the pin Then tape the lot together You then have just one block of tools to pop into the frame You can then push the pin out with the Chicago pin and bolt up Simple’s

Gerber wire cutters are not good. You can buy them from different companies and they are made of much stronger steel. I’m not sure if I want to get this or the new leatherman arc.

Thanks so much for this! Will be giving it a go when I get the chance. Just looking at mine now, the washer-tool ratio is.. Screw, clip, frame, washer, scissors, 2 washers, bottle opener, washer, Philips driver, washer, can opener, washer, serrated, washer, frame, Chicago screw. Screw, lanyard hole, frame, 2 washers, kn*fe, 2 washers, awl, 3 washers, flathead, 3 washers, hook, washer, file, washer, frame, Chicago screw. Hope this helps!

Hello, I also ordered them, I just wanted to check if their assembly is correct and how do you think about it, when I open them to an open shape, that is, holding the handles, the allowances of the placement leans slightly to the right, not in an extreme way, the thickness of the nail is normal, what do you says about it

thanks for this! I did mine and now it's perfect for EDC. took 5 mins grinding using diamond sharpener, just leave a small notch to hold the blade in place and smoothen with fine grit to make sure no grinding feeling when closing/opening :)

Hi thanks for review. I own a PP and love it. I'm interested though if you adjusted the tension in the side tools in order to be able to thumb open the knife or serrated blade? No way can I do this under current tension/friction of mine. Thanks again.

A torx bit in each side of the pivot for the tools you find too tight would let you loosen it. Or if you keep opening it and closing it it should break in and loosen over time 👍

I’d think that would work. Sadly I don’t have mine anymore or I’d check long term it might be better to cut down the long screws.

I thought this would be my favorite multi-tool, since I wanted a multi-tool with a corkscrew, and I love the gears and bit-driver, but I found out the lack of a saw and the nearly useless can opener make me not want to carry it since an old Wenger pocket knife has the saw, screw, and many other things, and my larger Wave knockoff has everything BUT the screw, so I end up taking a different thing depending on what I think I might need that day, which ruins the point of an EDC. I need to either start carrying a saw blade I can clutch in the bitdriver or add a saw and sharpen the can opener of this SOG. Being stuck out in the wilderness with a can I could not open because this thing kept deforming the can more than opening it was pretty horrible. I ended up getting it open an old way that wasn't proper can opener use, but at least I didn't starve. We need a video on sharpening the can opener, or replacing it with a pull style one that comes sharp. Victornox made push style ones famous, but the Wenger style pull ones are much more like the P-31, P-51 and FRED, all of which were militaries trying to find a cheap way that works. Real shame they went with a dull push that's more of a can punch.

I didn't dismantle mine, it took about 15 minutes with a Dremel and a needle file to do the job on the same two blades shown in the video. I have a question though - what about the other tools? Does the fact that they are metal and are not actually blunt mean that they are potentially covered by the law as well? I suppose there is a wider question: would carrying a screwdriver fall foul of the law?

I’d be interested to know if your preference for the Leatherman can opener is a result of attempting to use the SOG can opener in the same direction as you’re used to using the Leatherman one. The SOG can opener is similar in design to the Victorinox can openers (which I largely prefer to the Leatherman style) which actually operates with a “forward” direction, in contrast to the “reverse” direction intended for can openers similar to the Leatherman.
