Hi David. It has originally 2 switches behind the smoke box door. One to turn the smoke on and off, the other for track polarity. I am not sure but if I recall correctly, that one has a middle position to stop the engine. Greetings Maxim

It's a custom smoke unit based on a Heng Long smoke unit. You can find them on eBay and AliExpress.

Problem mit der Kupplung der beiden Triebköpfe des VT 11.5 InterCity. Ich stelle fest, dass Ihnen die Digitalisierung des TEE Piko 37320 gelungen ist und Sie viel Freude daran haben, ihn fahren zu lassen... Ich habe etwas Ähnliches erreicht, indem ich den Piko InterCity 37321 digitalisiert habe. Ich habe den LokSound 5 XL installiert. Alles funktioniert gut, Scheinwerfer (Richtungswechsel), Motorik, "Gasturbinen"-Sound, personalisierte Bahnhofsdurchsagen ... bis hin zur Beleuchtung des Personenwagens. Wenn ich jedoch den zweiten Triebwagen (symmetrisch, hinten im Fahrgastwagen) ankupple, löst die Zentrale Z21 aus, alles wird unterbrochen und sie geht auf Fehler, blinkende rote Lampe?!!? Ist Ihnen das auch schon passiert? Fällt Ihnen dazu etwas ein? Haben Sie einen Vorschlag? Vielen Dank im Voraus, mit freundlichen Grüßen, JR [email protected] NB: Ich nehme an, der hintere Motor muss mit dem vorderen Motor synchronisiert werden, sich in die gleiche Richtung drehen (d.h. rückwärts), mit der gleichen Geschwindigkeit... um den vorderen Motor zu unterstützen?!!? Hi Jean. Due to a technical problem in the YT Studio app, I noticed just now your comment. Glad that you have a Piko TEE too! The problem you describe could looks like a wrong connection of the connector in between the cars. Make sure the left wheel of the first car is connected to the left wheel of the rear car. This train doesn't need 2 decoders, you can just wire the second motor in parallel to the to first one. That also the best choice to keep them synchronized. Have fun with your model!

Dag Eric, je kan gewoon Lokprogrammer opnieuw installeren en downloaden via de esu website. Normaal gaat alles dan weer werken.

Bedoel je dat een "write decoder data" naar een ESU 5 decoder niet werkt? Mogelijks staat je soundproject nog op een andere versie. Dan moet je dit eerst converteren.

Hi Maxim, I am giving the steam whistle a go and have an unmodified Heng Long smoker and an ESU Loksound 5 XL. Did you modify it so that it would fit? Mine seems to fit as it is. The Heng Long needs 6v for the fan and heater. Did you connect it to the AUX outputs (one for the heater and one for the fan) and adjust the 'dimmer' setting. Or did you do something to supply the correct voltage?

Hi I had a version with "air pump" for Tanks that's why I added a normal fan. I don't know for sure anymore, but I think that I used a buck converter and relay for the the heating element. The ESU XL has a 5V output, so you can directly connect it.

A question for you Maxim. Are the lights above the loco wheels intended to be prototypical? I have not seen them on locos before.

Yes they are! But in reality they were only used to do maintenance. They wouldn't be used during a ride. But it's wonderful to see the wheels of the model turning at night, so I keep them on.

You connect servo motors and leds directly to the ESU XL decoder. That's how it's done. ;)

Hi Alison. These are standard orange smd leds. The flash is controlled by the decoder, synchronous with the sound.

Awesome Maxim. You have done done a fantastic job on the loco and the layout is sublime. I have just picked up an old 2080D and planning to do the same. Like you I use the Loksound XL and have used the round boiler Massoth in the past but thinking of the new ESU dual pulsed smoker for this project. I have never got the cylinder steam to work on the Massoth - I think my Loksound sound file may need some work. Keen to see how much room there is inside once the loco arrives.

Hi Maxim, great video and i'm inspired. I've made my own moving panto according to your video. Which soundfile did you use for the panto? It's not the file you can download from ESU BR103. I can't find it, can you help me out?

Hi Kenneth, the soundfile for the panto is the original sound from the project. The only thing I did is brake it up in pieces so that the servo can be moved on the right moment. How to do this is shown in another video on my channel. Succes!

how in the hell did you get the the tender off since I'm also looking to convert my own Bachmann Big hauler to battery power. that and I don't like the idea of putting in a 9V battery then flipping a switch for the sounds while reaching underneath the tender to crank the volume.

I don't know anymore how I got it off, it were some screws, nothing difficult or special. To replace the battery you can use a buck boost converter so that it works already at about 3 V and that higher voltages don't damage the circuit.

Massoth has a special round version of their pulsed smoke unit. That will fit perfectly, but you'll have to give up some of the weight to make room. Steaming whistle is not possible with a Stainz.

Hi Aníbal, that's not possible cause due to a conflict about music rights, the version of Floor was never used. Instead they used a new version of Martine Grünwald at DVH. The vocals of Baron 1898 were done by Anneke Van Giersbergen.

What kind of liquid do you use for the smoke modules please? The original from Pika doesn't smoke much, the one from Massoth is a bit better, but not a single liquid has the power of yours. Thank you

I use MTH Protosmoke, but also the original ESU Smoke Fluid does quite a good job. :)
