כשהייתי בן 16 בערך השיר הזה התקבע אצלי כשיר האהוב עליי. יותר מעשרים שנה חלפו מאז, ולא הרגשתי צורך לשנות את הבחירה הזאת.

My own little story about Arik Einstein. I am not Jewish, but I lived in Israel for over 30 years. Sometime around 2015, that is, a couple years after Arik died, I was walking in a open air market in Jerusalem, and one of the vendors looks at me and starts to say, loudly, "Arik, Arik". Then he starts getting the attention of the other vendors around, "Moshe! Look, it's Arik!" In his (and my) older days, I guess I do see the resemblance. My wife found a picture of Arik that I do kind of look like. Similar shaped nose, jaw and forehead. I'm tall and thin. Wish I could sing like him. :)

(free translation with some help from google) Into the dream-captivated city A strange and heavy shadow has broken And a red moon dipped its majesty in soot He who didn't close his eyes, ached his bitter night The silence of surrender with no battle Each one held his fire unto death How the dawn didn't break for Prague On the third time its strength was spent How the sound of a bustling square on holiday died down (Chorus) A song that I dreamt about Prage (x2) There dawn will yet break again Like an old and yellowing photo, a ghost town is laid down At the feet of deaf bears, with the slaugher knife at its neck No one steps outside, a salty smell of ghettoes Is carried in the wind across the ends of town (Chorus) Only silence there remains, a young main slips in the doorway Then a strange light dawned on him, there in the dead town square (Chorus)

@@liamalpha Thank you so much. I remember well when the tanks rolled in. There is a brilliant performance of Dvorak’s cello concerto by Rostropovich from that very event. He wept with his cello.

The Gaza Strip including the Sinai Peninsula, prior to the 6-day-war in 1967 was Egyptian territory and was under Egyptian administration. Babies born in Gaza prior to 1967, were issued Egyptian Birth certificates. People travelling outside Gaza were given Egyptian passports. In other words people living in Gaza were Egyptians. After the 6 day war in 1967, the Egyptian army was defeated. However, Egypt left behind their fellow citizens in Gaza. These Egyptians under Yasser Arafat (who was born in Egypt), and under the influence of ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ gathered a movement called ‘Palestine’. This group eventually grew into the ‘Hamas’ movement after Israel left Gaza in 2005. In a similar manner, the West Bank (consisting of Judea and Samaria) prior to the 6-day-war in 1967 was administered by Jordan. Babies born in the West Bank, prior to 1967, were issued Jordanian Birth certificates. People travelling outside West Bank were given Jordanian passports. In other words people living in the West Bank were Jordanians. After the 6 day war in 1967, the Jordanian army was defeated. However, Jordan left behind their fellow citizens in the West Bank while many fled across to the other side of the river to Jordan. These Jordanians left behind in the West Bank, under the influence of Yasser Arafat gathered a similar movement in the West Bank and called themselves ‘Palestinians’. This movement is referred to as the Palestianian Authority (PA). Both Hamas and PA are deadly enemies.

As an Israeli thank you for trying to set facts straight, but you need to study the history a little better since you have some mistakes, especially regarding how and when Hamas and the Palestinian authority were formed, Hamas exist since the 1980's and was active in both the West Bank and Gaza and the PA was formed in the 90s after the Oslo accords and controlled both the West Bank and Gaza, you're most likely confusing historical facts with the PLO.
