Saying bike lanes are stupid is like saying sidewalks are stupid "wala naman naglalakad, underutilized" Aside from cars hogging the road, "lane sharing with motorcycles" is what's killing active transportation kasi nagiging delikado. We never had Road User's tax. What we have is aptly named Motor Vehicle User's Charge, because it only applies to MOTOR VEHICLES, or MVUC. MVUC was made into law in June 27, 2000, to offset the cost of road maintenance to motor vehicles. From Department of Budget and Management "[MVUC] is aimed at ensuring sustainable financing of road maintenance and the minimization of air pollution from mobile sources." is also computed based on weight, because motor vehicle weight is the main cause of road wear and tear. Bicycles have negligible weight to cause enough road damage. Another point - contrary to what motorists often think, MVUC does not pay for our roads, especially new ones. MVUC is just a small fraction of the overall DPWH budget

@@PinoyBikepacker Well, I consider cyclists both a pedestrian and a vehicle because they can cross pedestrian crossings legally and can also use the road designed for vehicles. Might as well use the pedestrian sidewalk if there are no foot traffic on the sidewalk. Pushing for these stupid dedicated bike lanes just to make you very insensitive to the current situation of the traffic for most of the road users. Don't compare bike lanes to the sidewalk. The sidewalk has been already been there since the advent of roads. Everybody walks but only a few ride bikes.
