My takeaway from this is that Lewis Collins was a bit embarrassed by it all and would prefer to not be there, but was too much of a class act to let everyone down and put on a great show. Such a shame he didn't get to play Bond.

I loved The Professionals as a young boy in the 80's - Lewis Collins was my hero. He was great in Who Dares Wins and the Jack The Ripper TV series with Michael Caine. He would have made a great James Bond. Just realising Lewis Collins has the look of the late, great Robert Shaw. R.I.P

I met him in 1987 when he was in panto at the Davenport theatre, Stockport. I was a chaperone for the junior dancers. I am GLAD he was never Bond. Once you learn the truth about the EVILS of Hollywood, you will be VERY grateful he never made the REALLY big time. Likely he died without having handed his soul over to the dark side

I have often thought that Lewis would've made a great James Bond. I've never met him but he comes across as a humble, gentle and kind man. Rest in peace.
