It's actually been rumored that somebody else did all the writing. I guess they call that a ghost writer. I have no idea how much truth there is to it. And believe it or not whether or not it's true. It's not going to change the price of bread that I put on my table.

If I lived at that time, I most definitely would’ve been drawn to the Quaker doctrines. I was raised as an Episcopalian. 30 years ago, studying with Seventh Day Adventist/books of Daniel and Revelation, was the start of my journey, returning me to our Hebrew roots of the faith as taught 2000 years ago, but abandoned through Catholicism and Protestantism. After five years, I left the assembly because my growth was being stunted. They didn’t acknowledge celebrating God’s mandated, three holy feasts celebrations, Passover. Shavuot/Pentecost and Tabernacles/Booths. In the past decade or two, there has been a schism in the Adventist community. Ellen White, and two elders, Jones and Wagner. advocated practicing Gods 3 Holy Feast Days. Standing up for God resulted in expulsion from America. White was sent to Australia. Jones to England and Wagner to South America, or vice versa.

Excellent, I learned so much! I especially admire the way you explain so clearly the multiple historic threads informing the events, and the side-trips into the saints' stories the people believed in (that is important for understanding their mind-set). And yes, as others have commented, thank you SO much for not using irrelevant and soooo annoying "background music"! Looking forward to your other videos - subscribed!!

I myself barely made it through basic schooling and went on to study in a vocational school to complete my education. But having a highly well read family who had every interest to have me more properly educated, I was taught to read classics at a very early age. I became an avid reader and practically grabbed everything I could get my hands on in order to still further my own education and cultural knowledge. I even learned how to practice comparative reading as it is performed in universities without even being aware that they did. Now, if someone like me, who came from a cultivated but rather poor family, who could not afford to send me to either high school or a university became an actor and a stage director, let alone also an artistic director, having been accepted by The Lee Strasberg Film & Theatre Institute and later even participated in professional seminars organized by both The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and The Royal Shakespeare Company, managed to work for almost twenty years in New York and elsewhere, then why not William Shakespeare? How jaded one must be to believe that only an aristocrat could have written such works, and it is again typical for a vain and pompous society of pumped up snobs who clearly would like to return society as a whole into a pool of illiteracy and ignorance in favor to the ever shining and brilliant elites, which are indeed sometimes even less literate than one might believe. I feel so sorry for such people, who simply cannot conceive that even a commoner can sometimes elevate himself to higher levels of literature and culture in general. Ah, yes, the ever lasting belief of that darned piece of paper hanging on the wall, well framed and displaying pompous certifications, which only prove that one has achieved basic knowledge. Practical one and indeed consolidated experience are then completely set aside in favor of what is hanging there. Heaven beware one may have educated himself in his own way! What a heresy, what shame, how dare he, or she do something like this! Well, I did and I have proven my knowledge, skills and experience despite not having achieved being a household name, since I only worked for the theatre, which was my great passion. And have we already forgotten how Sean Connery came from nothing and became such a great actor as to be as popular than ever? Just think about it. And he was not the only one. There were many more who came from nowhere and left a memorable mark of their own passage in the theatrical, as well as in the entertainment business as a whole. So, make no mistake, those who deny Shakespeare's genius are little people themselves and I would suggest for them to attempt to at least come up with one play that may be able to be compared with one of his. If they cannot, then you will have the final proof of why they drag people like Shakespeare through the mud as they do.

There's a lot of value in your observation, though its been my experience that the arrogance has almost entirely been from the entrenched stratfordian scholars/ university academics, rather than critics who have no personal agenda or tenure. Be that as it may, you list an impressive amount of achievement, and no doubt there is plenty of correspondence, both mutual and secondary, citing your developmental pathways. Your family history, and no doubt your own behaviour towards your children, neighbours and community also likely reflect your attitudes. There is no doubt plenty more evidence, besides what you kindly shared with us. And there's the real issue. The chart listed in the video clearly examines the paper trail, evidence and correspondence of, and pertaining to someone as prolific and high profile as Shakespeare, compared to all of his contemporaries, and from this position comes the bulk of criticism. We simply accept explations ex-cathedra, even when most of it is purely speculation. Quite the opposite of what would be minimally acceptable from a scholarship of science, or the rigours of evidence required from a legal standpoint. Now, all the fuss might be just that, and it may also be that no more evidence will ever emerge settling the issue for certain. What i find particularly fascinating is the raw emotion that seems to be tied into any debate or examination of problems, as if it were a sacrilege to question the legitimacy of contra-arguments. Again, you may well be right, but any arguments should be based on their merits, rather than presumed motives of elitism. As a scientist, I find the whole saga rather perplexing. We're supposed to keep challenging and asking questions about what we think is true. That's what science is all about. So the high drama surrounding the Shakespeare authorship question is curious to me. Anyway, thanks for sharing and adding to the conversation

@@heroesandlegends Thank you for your kind comments about what I have exposed, and indeed, it is true that as a scientific mind, one needs proof beyond the mere and spurious conjecture. That's after all the base of all rational and factual science. But my comment, seemingly "aggressive" was rather expressed about those you defined "entrenched stratfordian scholars". I believe that they sit too much around struggling with their minds on how to find the secrets behind the bard's writings instead of just accepting the fact that by now it has somehow become irrelevant to many. Besides, in that documentary you have uploaded there was a clear mention of those vast gaps in Shakespeare's chronology, disappearing suddenly and reappearing sometimes later out of nowhere. Said that though, we also know that he was at times an itinerant artist, probably accompanied by his troupe, just as even Moliere was in France, before they finally settled down. This is probably why there are no clear mentions of his whereabouts during those periods. Besides, having also studied Medieval and Renaissance history (and Shakespeare appears right on the last leg of the latter period), I/we know that biographical and historical evidence was rather neglected back then. Even birthdates and dates of death are sometimes disputed, since we usually only have official records by the church clergy available to us, and at times, even those do not represent the actual dates as written, but rather records that were inscribed at a later period in time. So, even the age of prominent personalities are somehow just vague. True history recording only happened much later in time and that's where all the conundrums are. Of course we know the history of great civilizations such as the Sumerians, the Persians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans among many others, but those too have been reevaluated in time, since at first, all we had were the history of the "victors", and as such, a rather distorted vision of what those cultures really looked alike. Today we have better means to bring more balance into it and discover a more realistic world in those ages. In the case of many artists and indeed even builders and philosophers alas, at least until the late 17th Century we don't have the same amount of historic attention as we would have liked. And yet, there is one way to decipher who an author was nevertheless. I know it would seem strange and indeed also conjecture based, but if one stops for a moment and instead of just reading his works as they are, but rather reads between the lines of such works of fiction, one might also discover the spirit and intention of the writer, including what was forced upon him by outside sources or by the times in which he had to live. Sometimes in very hard and harsh conditions, such as during a plague, social upheaval or indeed wars. In such times I doubt one would have had either the time or the interest to write down his or her biography, history or diary, since it was a period of self-preservation and survival. We also know that during the Elizabethan reign there were many spies around, only seeking to catch someone who potentially could harm her royal status. The Vatican, together with France and Spain had many agents roaming around England at that time and were indeed a direct conspiratory threat to Elizabeth's seat in power, and Shakespeare, stemming from a Catholic family must have been, even if just indirectly, under suspicion and thus, forced to keep quite alert about what could be written and what not about him and his entourage. We so often forget that freedom of speech back then was not even allowed to the highest members of the Court, and those who risked it, were either harshly punished or quickly dealt with by losing their heads. So, in short, knowing all that, it is no big mystery (at least) to me why there are such gaps in Shakespeare's biography. The lesser you knew about someone back then, the safer he or she fared in life. In a totalitarian or despotic moment in history this is the wisest way to stay alive and protect your head from being summarily be chopped off. And yet, if one thoroughly studies the Bard's works, some hints still remain of his skill in slightly and very cleverly denouncing such state of affairs which hindered him from actually writing down his thoughts as they were. One might find such evidence in his Comedies, such as "A Midsummer Night's Dream", "Measure for Measure" and even in the Romance "The Tempest" among others. And always in my own very personal - and perhaps misguided way - this is what may give us the true proof required to identify his authorship. I cannot say that I am indeed a true scholar of his worthy works, but I am indeed a very attentive and analytical reader and I seldom jump words and even empty spaces, and if I miss something, I usually go back and re-read the same paragraph more than once just to make sure that its meaning makes sense to me, and this does not just apply to Shakespeare, but to everything I do read, since this is the true art of understanding someone's thought. I may be picky and not really a speed reader, but what I have read throughout my life, also revealed the mind behind the ink or typeface left on paper. And this is why it is so important to be able to read. Many people nowadays seem unaware of this fact, but it is not just reading that makes you a master, but rather the way one reads that really counts. I only hope I haven't been too preachy in my answer back to you, or even overtly pretentious by explaining things you certainly know better than I, nor would like to know that I have bored you to tears with it. With my very best wishes of a successful and Happy New Year to you.

His "depth and breath of knowledge" didn't save him from the shotgun wedding!! Ironic isn't it, that knowing something and IMPLEMENTING all you know are two very different things, mainly because character plays a much bigger role than knowing in the IMPLEMENTATIONS of all that knowledge. Is one thing to write about it, another to live it and do what you know to be true. Building a sailboat is not the same as sailing... at all. And further, people don't really change much in the general strokes of their character after thirteen or fifteen, they add to it but the base is pretty solid whatever that base is, the foundation so to speak. These are issues we all have to deal with if we are at all conscious of it. You can in fact change SUPERFICIAL habits in a short time, but the foundational habits which are more like tendencies are extremely hard to change. You can act against your character, "nature" but you feel it fake and perhaps even shameful, unauthentic, if you do, so you cannot do it for too long without some mental consequences.

At Shakespeare's times playwrights and actors weren't in the glory as they are today. They were workers, not artists. That might have affected things. Plus in the tiny world of 1500s London, you REALLY think that a secret of that magnitude as Shakespeare's identity could've been kept under wraps? This whole "documentary" is so thinly veiled anti-Stratfordian lecture, that it's almost amusing.
