Good tips and I love your work! Suggest you give Platinum Carbon Black ink a try. It's a very black and fast drying pigmented ink with none of the clogging of india inks. I keep a couple of fude pens loaded with it and have had some of them go unused for over a week without issue.
@colourartzАй бұрын
Thank you very much for your recommendation, I will try that ink.Thanks !
@nicojarАй бұрын
You're a good artist, but these are VERY bad recommendations... 1. Easy and simple way to solve the issue of pen nib clogging: USE THE RIGHT INK FOR FOUNTAIN PENS! Do NOT use indian ink with a fountain pen. It clogs because fountain pens are not built for indian ink (pigment ink with a lot of gum arabic, what you call "glue"...), and fountain pens feeds (the black part underneath the nib) are NOT made to accommodate such a thick ink. 2. Pigment-based inks are usually not to be recommended for fountain pens. Dye-based inks are made for fountain pens, pigment-based inks are made for dip nibs and brushes. 3. If you are looking for a waterproof ink for a fountain pen, there are tons of options out there. If you REALLY want a pigment-based ink, then Platinum carbon black is the best out there. Or, if you want an ink that doesn't require to wash your pen every three weeks, De Atramentis Document ink is incredible and has a wide range of colors. 4. You can find a lot of tests on KZbin or on text-based internet and they all lead to the same conclusions: - do NOT use indian ink! It's not meant for this, and your pen is not meant for this. - use a dye-based ink, NOT a pigment-based ink, in a fountain pen. - platinum carbon, de atramentis document and noodler's bullet proof inks are the best, but there are other options too (diamine registrar's ink, kala nostalgia ink...). 5. On top of this, you don't give any valuable reason to your paper recommendation (cold-pressed, rough surface). Each paper has its purpose: - Rough surface gives an old-fashioned cachet, a coarse texture, that is nice when you're painting cities and want something that looks rough. It's an easy way to mask lack of technique or control over your stroke: if you draw, you'll make wobbly lines. It's relatively adapted when you are using ONLY watercolor, without using nibs/pens/inks. Usually good for large format paintings. - Fine grain gives a finer texture, but still on the rough side and most artists use that one for mixed-media art (i.e. watercolor + ink). - A hot-pressed paper has a smooth finish and gives no texture to your drawings, but is made for pens and dip nibs, as it's a drawing paper that accepts watercolor. Careful, though: better get your color right from the first wash, because superposing washes on a hot-pressed paper will show, much more, and this paper allows less of a play with water. Typically for manga, architecture or advertising, but could be used otherwise. 6. Regardless of what kind of grain you choose, what makes sense is to advise COTTON-BASED paper - even though it's more expensive, a cellulose-based doesn't mix and fix colors the same way and tends to mess with the pigment. Jill Poyerd, an art teacher on YT, made a lot of tests about them, if you're curious. And something between 220-300g/m², otherwise the paper doesn't absorb as well. 7. It is usually (in academies) NOT recommended to use rough grain with a pen, as you're losing the precision of your trait. That could be your personal choice, and it's ok to have wobbly strokes with dry effects at times (it's trendy sometimes), but it is not necessary and definitely not what the medium is made for. Rough => paint. Fine grain => ink + paint. Hot-pressed => ink + paint but less forgiving on the painting technique. It's a very personal choice of yours to use rough grain, and it's ok that you choose what you prefer. But a fountain pen is not meant to be used on rough grain, because it makes your stroke less precise (it makes your nib jump over the paper, regardless of your intention).

Are you using the fude nib as you would a dip pen, straight from the bottle, no cartridge or converter? I like your work and your videos. Also, do you have a website?
@colourartzАй бұрын
In some of my previous videos, I broke the ink cartridge of my Ford pen so I also dipped the ink in the ink bottle to draw. When I travel with it, I always use the ink cartridge. Thank you for your comment. I am glad that you like my channel. I don't have my own website yet.

Lovely sketches! Is that ink waterproof? Does it clog the fountain pen or do you have to clean it after use? Because i've been told indian ink may harm fountain pens. Cheers and keep up the great work! 🧡

I always put the cap back on the pen when not in use, and I always clean the nib in clean water or at least soak it in water at the end of each use.
