Richard is the most complete cornet player in my lifetime . Such a superb musician with the most beautiful tone, it seems so laidback and yet the detail is so well played. I could listen to him all day. Thank you. I lost my wife in the first month of. Lockdown, so I listen to all the music and so appreciate it.

what a band. what a conductor James Williams was. i remember buying this LP when it came out and thinking i've never heard a Salvation army Band play like that. As a young SA cornet player at the time this LP had a massive influence on me. It's still my all time favourite SA Band recording. Keith Hutchinson on Principal cornet & Peter Wise on Euph fantastic. many thanks

They had to play two pieces: this one (their own choice piece) and a set test piece. They came first on this one and fifth on the other one.

Apart from the great musicianship, so...was that an alto/tenor horn? It seems like it's the size of one, but the mouthpiece looks like it's for a euphonium/baritone.

General Larsson along with General Gowans were great men. Their works definitely revolutionized Salvation Army music. The lyrics of their songs were very very spiritual.

I'm no lip reader, but I'd go with "Yes! That's brilliant. Absolutely fantastic!". Which, to be fair, is appropriate for that performance.
@nicolasclerc198610 ай бұрын
Yeah, his expressions are fantastic. He's already smiling a few bars before the end, and his celebration on the last chord is fantastic. I played for many years on the soprano seat, played this piece as well, and trust me, when it comes to the end of the piece, when you're quite exhausted, those expressions from the conductor transmit you some real power to ring these few last notes and truly milk the last chord.

This was a remarkable performance by Black Dyke. I am so pleased that besides the brilliance of the various soloists, prominence was given to the percussion section of this marvellous band!
