@@Matty88K Misirlou is a folk song -rebetiko. The oldest version probably dates back to 1927 when the song was performed by Tetos Demetriades. Misirlou became very popular in Western culture through Dick Dale’s American surf rock version in 1962. Afterwards several version have been recorded while in 1994 Quentin Tarantino reused Dick Dale’s version in his film Pulp Fiction. Then it has been also used in Black Eyed Peas song “Pump it” (2006) and in the episode”The Jet Set” (2008) of the American series Mad Men.

@@stelioskaratsiolis296 The 1927 Greek Rembetiko version is the earliest recording, but it was popular in many countries in several languages before 1900. Since it was written by an Oud player born in Aleppo, the original lyrics were most likely Arabic or Turkish, but there are also Armenian, Persian (Farsi), Ladino and other versions. Composer's name is Effendi Ibrahim Levi. Miserlou means Egyptian (feminine) in both Arabic and Turkish.

The roots of this song go back 100 years, the paternity of the song belongs to the Alexandrian artist Sayed Darvis ... Born in 1892, died in 1923 and is considered the father of modern Egyptian music. He has composed 26 musical operettas, and more than 250 songs, and is the composer of the Egyptian National Anthem In 1919 he wrote the Bind Misr (The Girl of Egypt) One of the most popular songs in Egypt .. Nothing to do with Turkey.
