maybe they want to do two crops per year and get rain only for the one. plus irrigation is used to ensure you get water when is needed. sometimes you got the water but is not the time the crops need it. Plus fertigation is one big positive thing of irrigation. So you get higher yields and less man-hours for the fertilizer application

I would want professional installation. A turnkey job done by people who have put in dozens of systems. Approximately what would that cost for a rectangular 100 acre flat field with a well in place that can power a pivot?

I was 15 years old the first time I did this. It was a drip bar with a crew of 4. The field was 80 acres. We had stacks of drip tape rolls on the front of the bar. Took a crew of 4 men not including the driver 7 days, 8 am to 10 pm to finish 80 acres. The land we worked was 2,000 acres. Imagine the man hours to do all that. Proud to be a farmer!!

Dripline is installed 12 -16" deep or 6" below deepest tillage pass. No deep tillage once a drip system is installed typically.

I use similar drip tape on surface but im wondering how do you get water thru 12"-16" of dirt pressure? Thats not even counting the packing of soil by the weight of tractors and machinery etc.

Same way a vault of a cathedral dosen't come crashing down. Any pressure is gonna try to escape to the side and away from the center, which is suppoerted by even more dirt...etc, etc.

How long does last those irrigation hoses under soil ?.And if at some point u need to replace them,how u pull em out ?.
