I did this in September of 1966, just before entering high school. I had extra-long virgin hair, all the way down past my knees. I wanted a new look for my upcoming new life phase, so I went out and had my super long hair cut off. Even though I wanted to have my hair cut, it was still quite stressful. The stylist kept pulling my pigtail so hard as she was snipping it off, my head was bobbing back and forth. It hurt so much I was actually crying! I kept my hair short for over 40 years after that traumatic experience.
