when you say "using the original samples" do you mean you used an actual SD-90 ?
@CoNesTra_
@CoNesTra_ 21 күн бұрын
By "original samples", I mean the samples as they would have sounded before being downsampled and mixed down to mono. Not every instrument comes from the SD-90, but I have used the VST version of it to record samples for multiple tracks.

Imo that Slap Bass sounds a little quiet, but the rest of the song's instruments are pretty good

I swear the BDSP Remix is like... 1.2x faster than the DS game. But, this hits better without the crunchy DS Sounds.

This video is underrated af, this is the only restored version of Distortion World I can find on KZbin that sounds good. Great work!

im really curious about some instruments that sound like they have some sort of portamento going on but i don't see any events in the midi
@CoNesTra_
@CoNesTra_ 3 ай бұрын
Yep, I had to estimate how those instruments sounded based on how the original track sounded.
@CoNesTra_
@CoNesTra_ 3 ай бұрын
To elaborate on my previous comment, I mainly used pitch envelopes and portamento like you said. How I would estimate the sound is by listening to just the one channel on the original track, then I tried to make it as close as possible by ear. Since there wasn't much concrete data I could take, that was my best option. Hope this helps!

Again, I think you nailed mixing and volume balancing on this one. The French Horn might be a little too quiet, but the rest is just right.
@CoNesTra_
@CoNesTra_ 3 ай бұрын
Agreed on the french horn being a little too quiet. I'll likely do a V2 in the future. I spent a few days developing a script that converts the ADSR values from the original instruments to ADSR values usable in DirectWave. I think that has something to do with the mixing being more accurate.

This is a version of the Dreamyard theme which goes unused due to it only playing on the 2nd floor of the basement (which doesn't exist).

This is the ideal soundtrack if they choose to do remakes. Often times remakes feel the need to over-orchestralize the remixes when sometimes the original soundfont is just as great now as it was back then. Just clean up the mixes and boom, perfect soundtrack for a remake.

DISCLAIMER: This does not mean I'm starting the B2W2 Soundtrack (yet). This was just something a little different for hitting 250 subscribers. Thank you! Second time's the charm! I reuploaded this to fix the piano samples being incorrect. Thanks to GBP in the Pokémon VGM Discord for pointing this out! I also lowered the volume of the clarinet slightly due to it being a little too loud.

I extracted the sequences from the game into MIDI format using VGMTrans. Then, I import the MIDI into FL Studio and load up the original sounds using the track's soundfont. From there, I consult the sheet linked below to match the samples. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1T51DXbh0YK2LMzW2_2D_diKe-zvdHdQWdoxKkz5lCOM/edit#gid=819211554
