As a youngster in the 60's I played off 8 at age 16. Scottish from Aberdeen. I had dreams of lifting the claret jug. I am now 70 and play off 14 in London now. Played golf since age of 7. My uncle gave me a putter, a 7 iron and a 2 wood. Never off the golf course. I always think of what could have been but competing and enjoying the game is important. I still compete in the Seniors Medal and Stableford comps and can still shoot a low 70. I played Troon as a child as well and also St Andrews when I went to University. Tough. The rough was sometimes up to your neck. And the wind would blow against you on the front nine but still blow against you coming back. Memories. Good luck to those who try and qualify. Miss Peter Alliss. Played with him when he used to come up to Aberdeen.

Thanks for sharing your story! Golf means so much to people in different ways. I love competing at my level, which is miles away from what these guys can do. I started at 17 after watching Nick Faldo win the Open in 92. I've loved the game, I love just hitting golf balls, I've played some awesome courses and had some great experiences.

Hi mate, do you know of any other courses on/near this train route (the southern line that goes from waterloo past twickenham to strawberry hill onwards)?

There are only three golf courses in the Twickenham postcode area that are close to stations - Strawberry Hill, fulwell and Royal Mid Surrey (Richmond). There are #walktothecourse videos for all three.
