I feel you have far too much in that box for a Go Box. A Go Box should have one radio AND a handheld. a stash of money, a hand gun, some food and water, a notebook with a list of phone numbers you may need a large hunting knife and some rudimentary fishing gear with a frying pan. If you are in a wide spread, long term emergency, like a hurricane or some other large disaster, there will be people there who will kill you for what food you have. All of that needs to be under 20 pounds.

Yeah, I gave up that monster a few weeks after the video!!! I now just carry a ICOM 705, HT and notebook computer. So, you're preaching to the choir. I'm at about 10lbs-- Way under 20lbs.

I have a 9420 and a 9440. They both are fun to use and like AI4QT, I can reach make the 75-80 mile hops on a simple resonant horizontal dipole just 22 feet off the ground. They are becoming scarce. There were 2M, 6M, 10M, 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M, 40M, & 75M versions produced. With 10 AA cells (1.1A supply), they transmit 5W. With 2A or more, they transmit 10W. My favorite feature is their unclarified analog sound. Digital LED QRP radios of today don't have that sound.

Cool video!! I like running QRP sometimes. The Louisiana Traffic Net is six nights a week, Sunday through Friday, at at 18:30 Central, or 00:30 UTC. It’s on 3.910 MHz, with a couple of alternates if that particular frequency is in use or noisy. It was seven nights a week, but because of the Christmas holiday we stopped the Saturday night Net to allow for traveling, visiting family, etc. So we might resume seven nights a week sometime soon. Just haven’t heard for sure yet. We welcome all who want to check in. Waving a hand from southern Louisiana! KJ5GIH

PVC GLUE,Screw, or Rivet? In your opinion which is strongest? Thank you
@AI4QT4 ай бұрын
HI. Depending on the weight of the radio, I simply use either (friction) or glue. Again, only friction for light weight radios such as the FT817 or Xiegu radios. Definitely reinforce with small wood screws and PVC glue for larger radios. Tnx for your questions. 73 de AI4QT

Exactly agree with you... These cameras are not known for their night capability due to their sensors... I need to do this with my GP12, but the wildlife here is known to play with tripods. I can damage a 7 before the 12 🙂

I had a phone QSO with a Russian operator with a hamstick from my car - mobile - the other night. I've been able to get to Europe regularly mobile with hamsticks on 20 meters lately. 40 meters is more difficult to make contacts and I haven't gotten any contacts on 80 meters yet, although I haven't tried hard. A bug catcher was better, but that was a nuisance to install and deal with, so I'm using hamsticks mobile these days.

We worshipped, worked lived, and played Bonita, Louisiana, county of Morehouse Parish. It was our hometown too. Peace❤

I have a super antenna mp1dxg. I wonder if you have one and know how it compares to the antenna in the video.
@AI4QT8 ай бұрын
GREETINGS. Yes, I have the antenna you speak of as well--Super Antenna. No comparison between the two. The AV-18VS wins. Of course, you have to have radials. I still have the antenna in the video after all these years and it still works fine. The induction coil deteriorated a few years ago and I didn't replace it. Believe it or not, I can still tune 10, 20, 17, and 40 meters on the antenna with a good tuner. However, since MFJ sold the antenna, not even sure if you can get this vertical now with the company going by the wayside.
