My 9 year old - 95 pound German Shepherd was just diagnosed with a torn CCL. At her age and with my knee problems, she does not get a lot of exercise. I know her size / weight suggests TPLO, or TTA - but cost is an issue. I have read that the suture doesn't hold up well. I have watched the procedure performed on KZbin on live dogs and leg models and one thing bothers me about the procedure. It looks like an ordinary drill is used and when you drill most materials, you wind up with an ~ 90 degree angle where the drilled holes meets the surface - in other words, a sharp edge. It's not hard for me to imagine that with suture / bone relative motion, that sharp edge will abrade / cut into the suture - causing it to fail. It seems like a far better method would be to design a custom drill to radius the intersection of the hole with the surface, or to use a separate tool (similar to a router round over bit) to add the radius. I haven't been able to find any failure analysis for this procedure, but it seems like it could potentially be superior to either TPLO, or TTA - on the basis of not only cost, but performance as it seems the suture performs a very similar function to the ligament. I have to wonder if / and why not there hasn't been any work done to improve the longevity of Ex Cap. Your comments / thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Pete

Thank you for your video! May I ask a question, please? Here goes .... at the end of 2023, I ordered the small battery-operated Andis nail grinder. I also bought the packet of grinder heads (2 to 4 of them are the pink ones). The package/box that I ordered did not come with a mini-wrench. * * I did a search on Andis FB and found a video from 5 years ago that shows an "unboxing" ... the video showed the little plastic box with various heads and also the mini wrench.

In your video above, you are showing the plastic box which contains the mini-wrench (3 years ago). ... I've searched on the Andis web, on the web, and also searched KZbin, but I've found nothing current as to the mini-wrench tool. I googled and looked on different pet grooming web stores, but found no information or no plastic container/kit, to purchase. How and/or what should I used to change out the heads? I called Andis before I ordered and asked if the pink heads would work well for a very small dog (small paws and toe nails) .. and the phone representative said that the pink heads would be excellent for me to use. * * I appreciate your time! If you can give me any tips, I would so appreciate it!

I bought a glucose monitor made for dogs and I do my own curves. Through trial and error I learned that my dog does better with one unit less of insulin in the morning versus his evening dose. He was having Lo readings during the day and I would have to feed him small meals which made him not want to eat his last meal when I would give him his insulin. His curve has been stabilized much better during the day now. I've had three curves done via the vet with the Libre which is gauged for human blood. I definitely love the convenience of it but I'm more confident using one made for dogs.

So little teaching is done…even for human patients! If a person is not from a medical profession, one quick demo by a rushed rapid talking person is not ok!!

Thank you for this information. I’m an owner not a vet and do work with an excellent equine vet for her care. Equine asthma is very frustrating as an owner.

Amazing that you don’t charge for installing! We are going broke with the vet fees - $80 per visit plus $65 per installation - so lost and frustrated🙁

It's so costly to do it in the office, I decided to take the matter into my own hands. I buy a bundle of 4 from Costco each time, costs ~$30 each, I install it by myself, no training from the vet office. I install/remove it with extra care to reduce the pain for my dog. The key is applying the right amount of glue, too little it will fall off, too much will cause pain when removing it. I've posted a DIY video you can check. Hope it can help!

Thank you so much! My vet sends us home with insulin Rx and the bear minimum explanations. 8 units after eating twice a day - and call if you got a problem 😩 After failing taking blood samples I opt for Free Libre. My dog ripped it off within 3 hours - thanks doc for not educating me on how to prevent it 😣- now my dog is lethargic and the readings are High. No clue what to do😔😭😔😔😔😔😔😔

I had 2 curves done. Neither was good. It was at the clinic. This was on my 12 y/o shihtzu Cheyenna. Cost me a lot of money for nothing. She is on 3 units of petsulin. Hard to impossible to get blood glucose readings so I co not do one. I watch her diet and behavior

get the alphatrak2 glucose monitor and strips. A bit pricey but its so much cheaper to get it done at home (at least it was for me). After the first curve test at the vet that cost $200+ I realized I couldve just done it at home for under $150 and get 50 test strips with it.

Thank you for this. I have a newly diabetic 13 year old pomapoo. How often do you have these podcasts? This has been helpful and has helped to calm my anxiety. Using the freestyle libre monitor at home and also the Vetinsulin. I have not yet has been able to get a nice curve as of yet but its been a week now and 5 days my baby has been home and i have been taking care of him home after he left the hospital. 5 months ago blood work showed no indication of any issue. My baby has always been on weight target a little over 8 lbs fluctuating here and there. He was on the Farmers Dog food for the last 2 years and I thought he was doing great on it and loved it. Ingredients seems very healthy. He is now on the Hill WD diet food and adjusting to that. Any help is very much appreciated as I was told he is a "complex case". Which makes me really sad. He has energy and pretty much his normal self unless his BG goes to high. Even when it drops low he still seems to be ok. I received diagnosis of this due to him coming into the vet with a UTI. :( Heartbreaking Thank you again. I really appreciated this.

I got that smaller black nail grinder. I ended up returning because it didn’t do what I needed. It’s fine for ones not as comfortable using a heavy duty nail grinder but I’m a pet stylist and I use my grinder a lot so I need something quick.

Thank you this was very helpful. Question food hills diet low fat is it good for my furry baby? She just became diabetic about a month ago and still trying to get her insulin correct. She has the Libre and using Vet insulin and still having her glucose go up high. Can you pls help me with some more information? I new with this and would appreciate any help you may give me like how many times should I be feeding my little one she’s a mixed terrier also the doctor said to give her every 12 hours after meals her insulin but her insulin keeps going up high she wasn’t eating so they placed a tube so I’ve been feeding her via tube but she’s getting better on eating on her own so I skipped her meals through the tube maybe twice since I’ve seen the doctor for the past week. I’m sorry I know this is long. But any help will be appreciated. God bless.

thousands. I paid over 2k for my horse's treatment which did NOTHING. She also had a significant event line in her dorsal hoof wall after injection. This was the biggest waste of money and sadly only caused my horse pain and distress.
