This is maybe a stupid question: but do vocals from demos often sound like this because there are no lyrics yet? So they just sing the intended melodies in a mumbling way and then fill in the words? Just curious!

Not a stupid question at all, usually because of no lyrics and they're trying to ad lib or mumble a melody. It's been seen in some of their demos from the white album too. Mainly to get a gist of how it flows. Some demos are final, for example you'll find online "Harvester" which is the Demo of Lost It All, this is a more completed demo. Matt mentioned that Save Me had so many demos and renditions during their recording process as well. This is probably an early version, thus not having too many lyrics final.

Final audio remaster from this 25th anniversary gig. It came up OK, though the section after the solo had audio issues from the original. Did the best I could to repair. Enjoy!
