By far the only video that really helped me get close to understanding it. The angles is what really did it for me and the mentioning of what part of the palm it should or shouldn't hit

Which would be better for ergonomics, 2 up 2 down (10, 12, 14, 16) or 3 up 1 down (10 12 13 16)?
@RyanAlexanderBloom2 күн бұрын
If you’re gonna play a lot of toms and if you can still reach your hat and ride, then 3 up 1 down is way easier to reach.

every time i buy a kit off of offer up i always try and convince them to keep their kits and not get an ekit they dont translate properly if you have both you can transcribe OK but if you have just an ekit it doesnt teach you the dynamics to play an accoustic. ON the other hand if you have accoustic kit and play it regularly you can make the ekit sound realy good.

Wow that Power cuts through nicely, I was thinking the heavy would have a louder ping. I was thinking of ordering the Heavy, I, had a Power ride when I started playing again in 2007 but sold it like a dummy. I have a 22in Paiste 3000 rude power ride, 20in Earth Ride and new acquired 21in Sabian AA Raw Bell Dry Ride

They were probably the most consistently produced Z cymbal. There are a couple versions but they didn’t seem to update them for Z custom, they just kept selling the same regular Z ones with the Customs.

Awesome experiments, Sir! I’ve wondered about this! Particularly the tennis string synthetic gut. I once had a rope tension regimental drum with 8-10 gut snare strands and it sounded so thunderous with machine-gun-like snare tones. So I’m curious what some 1mm-1.2mm tennis gut would sound like on a metal 14x8” snare on a drum kit. Big Band-era drummers like Krupa used narrow gut snares to great effect.
@RyanAlexanderBloomАй бұрын
I haven’t tried them on a drum set snare. I have a limited number of the strainers with the holes. I could use a normal one but it’s harder to keep the guts organized.

I'm having a serious issue with my timing being slightly off on my snare hit. ...... I've learned that the bottom of my hand hits my leg every hit before the tip of the stick hits the snare so there is a microsecond delay I think it's because my hand hits my leg with every beat.

I'm just a beginner and I've been working on my foot speed for a long time now. Somedays I can do alright getting 2 quick kicks in and other day I suck. I bury the beater and tried not to but I'm stubborn and I'm just going to bury it. I'm trying heel toe but I don't think I'm doing it right. Someday if things are going well I'll play for 30 minutes or so and the bottom of my foot will actually start hurting. I think I'm being to aggressive with my kicks.

Before I watch this, I'm trying to learn ghost notes. I often click my sticks together. I did move my hi-hat around and raised it a bit. That seemed to help. The more I practice the better it gets of course but hopefully I can learn something from this video. Thanks Edit: my setup is actually pretty good. I'll have to watch the height video. I don't know if I'll move anything because I like the way it feels right now. My hi-hat might be a little bit too high but I can still tap the head easily. I've seen videos of hi hats so high it looks like they're at eye level of the drummer haha. To each their own I guess.

I have carried a drum key either on my key chain or attached to my purse since the mid 1980s. Our drummer in the band I was in was CONSTANTLY leaving his drum key at home. At one gig we were at there was a music store nearby. He ran off to buy another key. When he was done tuning I demanded the key from him seeing as he said he had at least 35 of them at home! It's a Tama, made in Japan, but not like the Tama key shown here. It's similar to the other winged ones you are showing except it is a LOT heavier duty. Those keys like like cheap crap in comparison. I've been retired from music for 4 years and yet I still carry guitar picks, in my change purse, that drum key and throw an XLR and a TS cable in my car any time I'm going to hear music somewhere, just in case a band member needs one.

I think the next-gen-pedals will have bindings and special shoes. lets call em drumming skates. Think about it. Your hands are always in contact with the drumsticks. How come our feet are not always in contact with the pedals? There's a loss of energy, and control. It takes effort and coordination to keep the feet in the "sweet-spot" while playing. Bindings could help with this. They should only attach to the ball of the foot, centered, and be only one "bolt" or magnet (or some hybrid) protruding or (attached) from the bottom of the skates. The 'bolt' should be able to slide into an adjustable-locking slot so you can find your best pivot point and 'lock-in'. Would need to be comfortable. You would also have option to unlatch quickly so you don't feel trapped. 🙂 Think of other specialty shoes in other 'sports.' rollerblades, ice skates, locking bike pedals. All of these devices help to transfer energy and complete the sporting task and are not considered cheating because you're still using human skills to get the job done. Another idea is to develop drum pedal bindings with some type of sliding-magnet, magnet-bolt or hybrid of the two. I'm sure I'm not the first guy to think of these ideas, but I'm surprised that there hasn't been any inventions that have come out in the last 50 years.

I mounted mine with a tama cymbal boom holder. (They are sold without the boom arm) I removed the boom arm and used the original roto Tom mounting bolt( it is a 3/8 inch 8inch long carriage bolt). I bought new ones , so they look new. Slip the bolt thru the cymbal holder and I used a flat washer with a nut to secure it to the cymbal holder. The cymbal holder won't ruin the bolt threads and the flat washer and nut won't scratch the cymbal holder. This way it can be mounted with a multi clamp to a stand or a rack clamp. I have a 6-18 inch roto Tom set up like that

you really don't need to play 200bpm 16th notes to play in most metal bands. You have to be starting to seek out extreme metal to get into that and lars ulrich certainly never did that. Bolt Thrower, Pantera, great metal bands below 200bpm
@RyanAlexanderBloom2 ай бұрын
That’s factually incorrect. Lars has lots of issues but he did record several things using 16ths above 200. Vinnie Paul absolutely could play over 200bpm. Bolt Thrower rarely played above the 160s, but that drummer was solid AF. There’s no way he was playing as fast as he was physically capable. Metal bands do play below 200, in some cases all the time, but that’s not universal and should not preclude Metal drummers from learning to go around that speed. Most drummers are in multiple bands and will definitely play different types of songs throughout their career.
