Yes but no. A charge stroke starts ahead of the beat and a malf starts on the beat. But they are a very similar idea in that some versions of a charge stroke emphasize the first note and the second is more of an afterthought.

More than that, all of the cymbal-smiths in Turkey either started at Istanbul proper (the company split post Agop's death in 1997) or learned the craft from cymbal-smiths trained by both Agop and Mehmet...who learned the craft in the K Zildjian factory in Istanbul (Zildjian USA closed it in 1978).

Most professionals use practice pads. There’s no reason to go deaf over some technical practice. Nor reason to agitate the neighbors or blow out the mic on the camera. Just no reason at all.

There’s a Tony Williams masterclass that you can find on KZbin where he talks about the fulcrum being in the back 2 fingers, and his back two fingers are actually not at the balance point, they are where they would be if you were still playing a front fulcrum. So, 21 grips?

Weird, but I don’t doubt it. There are probably like 30 grips and no matter which you use you probably think at least one of the others is “definitely wrong.”

I've been building drums for a few years now and I have a stainless steel pool filter housing that when taken apart is essentially a metal bowl and I'm thinking about making a small 20" diameter timpani out of it and putting it on my drum set (which I also built from a sycamore tree I cut down). I'm wondering how it's going to sound.

How do i know if i am twitching because my ankle technique looks just like it should be and the strokes are just as big as they need to be. My power is really good and the comfortable speed is just under 200bpm. Only thing is that controlling is difficult, espesally with my left leg but i am really worried if this is infact twitching. Also my stamina feels crazy, it feels like i could do it like 20 minutes straight. I have also perfected my pedal settings so i use much of the rebound of the beater. So i have some qualities of the twitching motion but in a working ankle technique. Could someone help me? Thank you

Thank you I didn't know about the selective mallet dampering option. You just increased my ability to make beautiful music! 😍 I would suggest to take natural drumsticks do it because it gets double bounce recoil on a hard surface the same way that you would if you were just bouncing drumsticks on a countertop and trying to see how quickly you could recoil bounce. Except now you have control of tone depending upon where your sticks are bouncing. 😁

Jencos are low end vibes, quality wise, worth about $500.
@RyanAlexanderBloom20 күн бұрын
I realize they aren’t high performance quality. Having an entire mallet instrument shipped isn’t cheap, no matter how bad or good it is, and there are never, ever large mallet instruments for sale in my area that I could buy in person. So, this was a reasonable purchase given my circumstances. Also “quality-wise” they’re tough as nails. There are 4 vibes where I work: Musser, Adams, Adams, Majestic, and they all have issues with the dampers or pedals or frames… they’re falling apart. The motors don’t work. They’re all newer and supposedly better instruments than Jenco, but the 60 year old beginner Jenco is still functioning without issue. It’s more robust., actually. The only thing it needed was a new string and that happens to every mallet instrument periodically. It also fit nicely in my tiny space, which a graduated bar instrument never would. Don’t look down on Jenco or assume I got fleeced. I know what it is and it’s actually the right instrument for the job. I wouldn’t trade it. A guy I know has a similarly sized Leedy (I think) with chromed bars and pearlescent wrap… it sounds a little better, but it’s not as sturdy. Doesn’t function as well. It’s actually more of a pain to deal with than this tank of a beginner instrument.

It’s French, but it just means right left flam flam. Similar to paradiddle, which is English, but means right left double. These are actually the easiest names to comprehend once you know what they mean. The ones that don’t have anything to do with the execution are harder, like flamacue… which means flam … acue. Not the right number of syllables, not indicative of the rhythm, nothing useful.

@daniell.raharitahiana5727Ай бұрын
@@RyanAlexanderBloom gonna have to disagree on that. You still have to learn the gravity blast. Sure it's pretty easy to get the hang of but if you don't know it it's still a hurdle. Why not take that opportunity to learn something more versatile? I can understand if this is targeted at people who have a well established skill set and want to quickly fill a gap, but anyone who's beginner to intermediate should steer clear of hacks imo. But hey if you dig this hack don't let anyone stop you, just sharing some thoughts

my assumption for why the pads are so spaced out would be because, since the pad has no rims, its good to get used to clearing that much space to get from drum to drum. if they were closer together a drummer could get into the habit of sweeping too close to the rim.
@RyanAlexanderBloom2 ай бұрын
That’s an interesting thought. It might be. They could put rims on them… I think the next generation of these heavy hitter pads is supposed to get some form of rim.
@tObito687Ай бұрын
@@RyanAlexanderBloom that would be great if they did. theres a surprising lack of good tenor pads with rims that arent super expensive or sold by the scam artists at xymox
@RyanAlexanderBloomАй бұрын
True. Tenor pads are massively expensive for what they are, which is just 5/6 basic practice pads. You can get a pad on Amazon for $14. Multiply by 6 and that’s $84. Tenor pads start at $200 and go up… I’d be willing to sort of spot manufacturers $20-$30 for putting them into a tenor configuration. So like $135 to start. But $200+ or even $300+ for some is crazy. For that they should have rims at least.

My band brings full stacks to gigs. It may not make “sense” to everyone… but there are some bonuses besides looking cool. Guitars basically don’t need to be in the PA system at all. Or only a tiny amount… depends on the size of the room. If you run cross cabs they don’t really need to be in the wedges either. That leaves a lot more room for vocals and kicks in there. Other stuff.
