The principles of mechanical leverage are universal for fighting. Taiji does it better than any other art.

True. You must have a pivot. I love Tai Chi and am going to add it to my Ving Tsun. In VT, many do not realise for a while that the pivot is how you turn a straight line into a curve or circle. When you get more kung fu, you can see more kung fu!

No blocking no countering, go directly and intently to your opponents vitals. This is priceless advice. Musashi came to the very same conclusions.

Usually great explanations from Master Chen, but the student keeps asking HOW to practice or feel it in the form and the same answer. When you are able to try it on someone who already knows it, they can tell you if you are heading in the right direction

So, I guess, you mean that top and bottom separate. Interesting. Sorry about Wellington, New Zealand. Your friend didn't contact me back when I reached out on FB. Then, my friend who rents his dojo made himself (lately) difficult to contact or to communicate with. Disaster. :( I hope your seminars in Christchurch go well :)

That's interesting! Shame I missed the Sydney workshop :/ How does it work? Even though you're not using your waist, which muscles do you use to push hand, is it not just arm?

What do you mean by the middle? Is it the center of gravity?
@PracticalMethodSydney
@PracticalMethodSydney Ай бұрын
Middle is in relation to the two ends. Physical example, on an even 100cm wooden stick, the middle is at the 50cm / 50cm mark.

Some people just don't want to or don't know how to explain clearly and simply....the longer it takes for you to get it, the more you pay. This is definitely a practice within the martial community.

Very interesting. I understand the benefits and power transmission but... it seems to be out of tai qi principles of relax and flow 🤔, even in a chen context. As a chen style practitioner I would love to know how this links to my practice. Would be like in hsing yi, flowing hip transitions but stiff when beating or doing fajin? Thanks a lot 🙏

Thanks, a lot, isn´t it about static compensation chain - hitting, receiving ther reactiv force nad returning it back to the opponent´s body: just at the equivalent force using isometric or plyometric principles? Paul,69

It’s about separation of Yin and Yang. Of movement, and no movement.
@inmemoryofin
@inmemoryofin Ай бұрын
Sometimes to create movement in the opponent there needs to be no movement in the practitioner. Not meaning stillness, but no movement. In this case, moving the waist “leaks” out power generated by the legs. Watch Mike Tyson throw a right hook and you’ll see it there too. His right shoulder stays firm so carry maximum power through the striking surface. It’s external (maybe) but a close analog. I’m not trying to speak for Mr. Chen here, just my own take on this, that I have experienced too.

I think Master Chen feels the balance point/position of his opponent and knows how to use his muscles and pelvic to produce a reaction force (Qigong) to shift his opponent's balance or center of gravity to make his opponent unbalanced. To master this technique, it requires years of learning and practice. Also, it requires the flexibility of each practitioner. This art is the harmony of mind and body.
