what i dont understand about this movie is why did they ( stan and howard) come to remove the memories of joel, because joel never came to these guys and asked for that in real life, he asks for the procedure in the dream when he finds out clem did, which was constructed by these guys in the first place. and how did they even create that voice recording( that we see in the end of the movie) of joel when he was just unconsious all the time, this ' want' to delete clem was in the dream. I dont get it. Can somebody help??

the thing that I related to the most in the Dead Poets Society was The View on life and suicide specifically the way that it was captured mirrors my own attempt the near ritualistic enacting of the movements of the opening the windows feeling the cold air on your skin the last time it's all so real every single step of the story with Neil's character I felt like I knew what was going to happen not because it's predictable but because I had lived it and that itself is something so special something that you don't get in media often rarely are you able to see such a Darkly realistic depiction on what true depression looks like because the truth is most depressed people are alive they are so alive that they cannot help but feel, but the world or the people around them refuses to allow them to live so when all agency is taken away from them they enact the only thing that they have agency over and that is their lives. As most people believe that their life is something that they must live those who realize that it is a choice to live will always surprise those who think that it is a requirement all in all I say all of this because I am alive but I have yet to see a piece of media outside of this capture the feeling of not wanting to be as well as this one did

Boutta watch your eternal sunshine video but commenting here to highly recommend the show "Pantheon", as its ending (along with how it tied to the overall premise) is what reminded me of Eternal Sunshine and caused me to search for an essay. Simply hoping to share a piece of media that I think didnt get enough word for people to discover what a gem it is.

Joel and Clem are supposed to be together. The universe would bring them together over and over, no many times they erase their minds. They're meant for each other and their souls are tied together. And that's why this movie makes me bawl my eyes out like no other. 😭

Hey there Schloetz! Excellent video essay!! Being a long-time Dead Poets aficionado, I've found it very sad that somehow many people on the internet have attached a completely (in my opinion) off-base theory as to the meaning behind this magnificent film. I am upset that it may influence other creatives NOT to watch the film afraid that doing so would categorize them as the aforementioned. Do you understand what I am getting at - and has this influenced you to not even approach said theory in this video? Just curious...
@SchloetzАй бұрын
Hi there, thank you for the compliment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. In regard to your query, that's a rather vague description so I'm not exactly sure which theory you're referring to

Back here after S2, and this video aged really well because the biases in the writing became even more apparent... and it has deeply affected the quality of the show to the point GRRM had to make a blog post critiquing it. The cracks in the first season have gotten worse, not better. The writers redeem awful things on one side and ramp up the actions of the other. Sarah Hess said "Civilians don't count" after Rhaenys (aligned with the blacks) killed countless civilians to make a point, a fact both fandom and writers gloss over.
@Schloetz3 ай бұрын
Yeah, that line from her astounded me regarding civilians. It's immensely out of touch with what ASOIAF is about. I'd like to make a large video further breaking down my thoughts on House of the Dragon given the nosedive the back half of season 2 took

You are missing a big point though. It's not inevitable. People change and grow, the difference between Clem and Joel at the end of this movie is that they have both grown a lot personally even though they do not remember why. There is no absolute in this movie, you can take it how you want. People can and will, change. Nothing is inevitable if you are willing to put in the work.

This film is Jim Carrey's only very serious role, I only saw this film , few days ago. Mostly known for being a comic actor , who at times has been funny but also annoying in some of his films. I wish we got to see Jim Carrey do more serious films. He has now retired from acting, and is 62 years old as of 2024
