I didn't do the jump as I knew it was too sketchy but in the 1990's our secondary school took us there seemingly with the sole intent of encouraging everyone to take the plunge.

I was at the Strid a few months ago for a walk & noticed diving is banned. I suspect cave divers would make short work of it if given access when the river is low

The superstructure is a few miles west of where the main wreck lies now. Apparently it’s a mangled mess following the capsize and early attempts to tow the wreck while still upside down.

Love the commentary alongside the video. Dived the Markgraf in 1982 and bottomed out at 48m. Only had 10 minutes bottom time as we all dived on compressed air back then and we're all being advised to do no-stop dives. How times have changed. Great video btw

Hello, I am no stranger to Devils bridge as I proudly attended boarding school many years ago not too far away in beautiful Grange over Sands Witherslack. During my proud attendance at that school, we used to often head here to Devils bridge and some boys were extremely brave by jumping in the cold water from a height but I never ventured into that challenge. Indeed trips here and everywhere else was fantastic and I always stated, Witherslack were the best school I ever attended and indeed the right school. There was another school affiliated here in Kirby Lonsdale called Cedar house. It’s ironic, as I paid a recent visit here with another ex-boy who attended Cedar house and Witherslack Hall. I’d certainly love to try some underwater swimming like this here in future.

@@cleyland1996 hello. I’m pleased to hear you liked it there. I proudly attended Witherslack Hall School And Near By from 1979 till 1983, so a good three and a bit years or so, and yes, I really liked it there. I honestly wish it had turned into a further education College and gone back under the right circumstances, including, having stayed for a job, and I’m not the only one who feels the same.

@@bestrickie2 I know of a good few people who feel the same way too mate, myself included. When I left there I returned to a town and now it’s all in the past…. Hence the reason I’m now searching for diving videos at devils, I’ve never even been diving but I’ve got a new found love/desire to be in and around water. All I want to do is go deep down and also out to see diving there too.

@@cleyland1996 a school mate and I we went to Devil’s Bridge last year and we also had a good visit to the grounds of Witherslack Hall where we took photos of the place. Witherslack Hall is now called Oversands school. Even a former member of staff who I met up with a couple of years ago, stated it would have been so good if some of us boys could have gone back for a job years ago and I certainly would have done. At Witherslack Hall School, there was a farm adjacent to the school and again, had the school transformed into a college and taken over the farm, again, I’d love to have gone back trained and stayed there years ago.

Sorry Dale you are wrong, At Devils bridge you have to be heavy and drag yourself upstream because you cannot swim against the current where the river narrows. It has a Pebble bottom so nothing to kick up

The open hatch on the keel might be an access hatch to allow workers to inspect and repair the double bottom when in dry dock. fuel and water tanks were often in these spaces, Battleships carried a quantity of oil fuel, although the Queen Elizabeths were the first British Battleships to be fuelled solely by oil.

@@benwilson6145 ah thanks. Interesting. I looked in Warship Design from 1907 to see if there was an explanation but it was all about sub-division and metacentric heights!! Thinking about it it would have been easier to access the double bottom internally for inspection.

Yep - they are all there. Some nice captures there. Well done Bud. Its the trawlers that rip them away by the tonnage and whose chains have desecrated the seabed! So i hope they have been stopped that practice. Never mind dive buds who can only take a hand full 👍 👌 🇬🇧
