At the risk of offending someone I travel with lightweight plastic shopping bags from Sprouts. Four cost 40 cents. “Double” them, one inside another. There. You now have two ultralight bags! A carry-on and a personal item. Use one for a full set of sturdy clothes. YOU ARE WEARING A SET! Use the other for Tech, Toiletries and any Meds you need. Hand wash one of your unders and socks. They dry overnight. Wear a simple “work” shirt and jeans. Wear your favorite shoes. If it’s cold wear a light down jacket [Uniqlo] and a beanie. See how long you can wear the jeans between washes. Wash a work shirt every few days. They dry fast! Not for everybody but if you want to play games with carriers here’s a place to start! And I practice what I preach! I have a work shirt and jeans drying on the back porch! Have a nice trip!

I am not homeless but I decided to do homeless challenge on purpose. Guess what inside my student bag. 2 polyester short sleeves shirt, 1 uniqlo light cotton black jean, 1 active short, 2 underwears, and 1 light polyester hoodie. Right now is winter so no sweat at all. For every third day, I will go to gym, change long pants to active short and wear same shirt, do some exercises just not to be noticed as homeless guy, go back to bathroom. Get a shower, and just the same shampoo to do real quick laundry under running water from shower-hose. Since there is no sweat and dirty at all so a quick handwash will be fine. Then wear fresh underwear with fresh t-shirt. Put washed hoodie, active short, underwear, long pants, and shirt into a clean plastic bag and walk out the gym. Go to nearby laundromat to use dryer. Since I squeeze all water out of them and those are polyester, only 15 mins in dryer will be completely dried. So travel like him or being homeless like the way I do will make people not notice at all. He went to tropical countries like asia and not wearing underwear, his groin will be wet and greasy because I tried 😂 He just did not confess 😂

I'd cut that toothbrush handle though. Won't save much weight/volume but helps to drive the point home that things get serious now! (I also weigh stuff on a scale and if I need to decide whether to take this OR that shirt/short/cable/charger I usually take whichever is lighter.) You'd be amazed, sometimes that's how you can easily shave a third of the weight of an item off without any real difference in function...

I travelled to Bulgaria in December with only the free personal item on wizzair... actually it was a 12 liter pack because that was the only one I had (so. much. wasted. space. I. didn't. use). As long as the climate you are in doesn't change much it's definitely also possible in a colder climate (because you'll wear everything anyway since it's cold) One challenge is "going to the airport by public transport" if you leave from winter and are going to summer. Another challenge is air conditioning on the plane and in hot countries because if your overnight bus is cooled all the way to "near freezing" but outside it's "tropical" that's where thermal ski underwear saves the day ;)

Thanks for making a video that's well balanced and for being interested in Singapore! Singapore is full of people who just wants to make things work. Who doesn't love to have fun? Thing is, we can only have fun because someone before us had to pay the price for our freedoms. Most of us did nothing to deserve it. I am appreciative that our scarcity as a country reminds us to stay humble, in touch with reality, disciplined and help each other out where it counts. Guess that's the double bind that Singapore uniquely faces. :)

And especially if you're some non-indigenous diaspora whose forefathers weren't even originally autochthonous to the Malay Archipelago (including Singapore) but came in as hard labourers for the British. You are not one to decide who is Singaporean enough to stay, in all honesty. The source of your meager happiness in life comes from feigning ignorance of the reality of Singapore. So, if you can't deal with it? Refrain from commenting. Your ignorance is astounding enough so, take this as an advice before uttering more mediocre wax lyrical. I moved back to Singapore from Australia when I was a teenager, so I kinda of get the Western perspective feeling that Singapore is "too perfect" or frigid. BUT, having lived here for more than 20 years now and reading up on books by founding father, LKY, I have a much more broader perspective. . Singapore has prospered not just economically and survived so hardships (e.g. M'sia threatening to cut off our water supplies in the past) but it's truly a progressive country that I'm so proud of. Singapore is a country which truly cares about its people. Living in a small space we need rules, otherwise it will be utterly chaotic. Malaysia have asked Singapore to review the water dealing. For this issue maybe ill throw some benefit of the doubt on Singapore's government side maybe they have some arbitrary mechanism to settle these dispute with Malaysia g2g (government to government), but the singaporean media usage of such headline to flame its citizens into hating@ downgrading Malaysians that we are the perpetrators is just absurd and serves as political milage.

Just to add some historical (or hysterical) context. At around 5:26 you (the video) explains how unlike other countries which had to fight for independence, Singapore sort of had independence thrust (unwanted) upon it. And this was covered in broad strokes as the Malaysia Parliament voted to expel Singapore for "political and racial tensions". Which is enough for those with a passing interest. (Really! Who cares? Other than Singaporeans? Or curious history students?) Here's a conspiracy theory you won't find anywhere else: It was the Malaysians' attempt to teach Singapore (or Lee Kuan Yew) a lesson. The conventional wisdom was that it was impossible for Singapore to be independent - we lack the resources - land, water, a hinterland (rural farmland) - to be self-sufficient. Which was why Singapore agreed to join the Federation of Malayan States in 1963. Lee Kuan Yew's envisioned a Malaysia (with Singapore as a state) that would treat all Malaysians equally, regardless of ethnicity. He promoted the idea of a "Malaysian Malaysia". This ran head first against the indigenous Malay politicians' idea of a "Malay Malaysia" where the indigenous Malays would be advantaged. More worrisome is that Lee's idea was gaining some traction with (unsurprisingly) non-Malays, and his political party was making some inroads. Worst of all, Lee is a consummate orator and even spoke in Malay to try to win people (Malays) over. So the Malaysian (or Malay) political leaders decided to expel Singapore. The plan was for Singapore to be cast out. Alone. In the wilderness. With nothing. And learn her lesson. Realise that she cannot make it alone. And then, after a few years of blundering and mucking about in the economic wilderness, suffering deprivations, lack, and sacrifices, she will come to her senses, vote out the irascible Lee Kuan Yew in favour of a pro-reunification leader, and go crawling back to the Federation, and beg, plead to be readmitted to the Federation. And the Federation could magnanimously re-accept Singapore back into the Federation, ON THE FEDERATION TERMS. And that would be the end of Lee's "Malaysian Malaysia". Good plan, no? Unfortunately, they never told Singapore their plan. So Lee Kuan Yew cried (Really! Literally! On National TV! Oh the shame!) at Separation. (Which must have given the Malay leaders great satisfaction. "Our plan is working!") Then Lee and Singapore, and Singaporeans got down to business. The business of survival. The business of making a living. The business of putting food on the table, and a roof over our heads. And they (the pioneers) survived. And thrived. And made Singapore. In spades. [Meanwhile, in Malaysia... but that's another story...] So that's the conspiracy theory: the Malaysian Parliament didn't vote to GRANT Singapore independence out of the goodness of their heart (no proof of a heart. No evidence of "goodness"), they voted to EXPEL Singapore to teach Singapore a lesson. The plan was for Singapore to come crawling back and BEG to be readmitted into the Federation on the Federation terms (no more "Malaysian Malaysia" crap!) after failing spectacularly at independence. I do not know how credible this conspiracy theory is to non-Singaporeans. It requires a familiarity with the Malay nature, the Malay philosophy for it to make some kinda of sense. For it to be credible. White America (USA) does not have this passive-aggressive approach. If Texas wants to secede from the USA, the Federal govt is more likely to say, "over my dead body. Or preferably yours." (And Texas would say, "don't mess with Texas!" and the shooting war starts.) The US is not going to expel Florida to teach it a lesson (for example). But this scenario is believable if you are familiar with the Malay culture and people. The Malays are not given to confrontation (they prefer to avoid it if possible) as a means of conflict resolution. They seem to subscribe to a philosophy of "natural justice" - as in "I will advise you, but if you will not listen to my wise counsel, then go ahead and do as you please. But you will have to bear the consequences of your choices." In a sense, this was what they "offered" Singapore in 1965. And, thank you for an entertaining video.
