What about if there’s an oil leak around the slave cylinder itself. Does it need to be replaced ?

Cap from a 2 galon or 5 galon plastic fule can fits the top of master cylinder. Inserted 3/8 hose inside spout ( old style spout) and secured with black tape. Used about 1 or two ponds of pressure, bleed the slave off worked perfectly. This was after replacing just the hose that had a hole rubbed thru.

Why not bleed it the same way as brakes on a car or any other automotive car clutch by having someone to press and release the clutch pedal while person under the truck is cracking loose the bleeder valve on a slave cylinder and watches the air bubbles coming out of it through the clear hose? And topping off the clutch fluid reservoir? BTW Meritor Wabco also makes the clutch control repair kits which includes that plunger valve that hardens over time and looses its ability to push the brake fluid into the slave cylinder thus engaging the clutch. No need to pay $450 for pedal assembly if rebuild kit only costs like $75.

Thank you for the video, but all that work is not needed. It is very simple to do. Just remove the slave cylinder to hold vertical. Then gravity bleed through the nipple twice. Then push on the piston inside the slave cylinder with a socket extension. You will hear the sound of bubbles coming from the reservoir up top. Push in the piston a second time and you should hear it again. By the third or fourth time there should be no more sound. This means your system is bled. Won't take very long to bleed. Your clutch will be hard right away. I bled my International Prostar which has the same slave cylinder as yours. Here is a link to a video that shows the correct procedure kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4jboYiPnqd7gbM.

@@jj2751 I no longer have the truck but I did fix the clutch before I sold it. The clutch petal is a 2 piece unit. "Petal and a bar that the petal bolts up to under the dash". My bar was broke. I went to the junk yard and found an old kemworth t600 if im not mistaken. If I am just look up and kenworth that parts interchange with each other. And you will he able to find wat you need.

Thanks for the video. On my 2014 Cascadia, I had the same problem, I didn't realize.my slave cylinder had a slow leak, and I unknowingly ran my fluid low. Also the plastic piece that pushes on the master cylinder plunger on the pedal assy. crumpled into 5 pieces. My pedal whet all the way to the floor and I could barely get it in gear without grinding a little.. Then I woke up one morning and everything changed I couldn't depress the clutch but only a couple inches, and as soon as I moved the pedal a 1/2 inch it would engage. Thats when I noticed that was left of plastic piece was jammed sideways. I was driving up a heavy grade and I heard my clutch slip a little, so I pulled over at a loves and thought I was done. I called 2 different Freightliner dealers and a well know other respected truck repair shop and they all told me the same thing (I needed a whole new clutch put in to the tune of $3700-$4700. I knew my clutch was fine because I baby my truck and have never abused the clutch or my. clutch brake. That's when I noticed I was out of fluid. I filled up the resivore, loosened the release valve and pumped the master cylinder plunger several times with a pair of plyers, then tightened the fluid valve and away I went. I glued a piece of broom stick into the hole that the plastic part fit into and glued a beer cap on the end to keep the plunger from mushrooming the wood, and away i went. That happened several weeks ago and I have had no problems since. I keep a close eye on my resivore now though, and will replace both soon.

It works if you force air from the bleeder up through the master cylinder.

Thank you brother. I couldn’t get the air out from the top. Your way worked like a charm. I have my pedal back!!
@usdpaulp5 жыл бұрын
Fyi...u did too much with that cap and valve stem. All u need to do is fill the reservoir (leave cap off) and go underneath the truck. Unscrew the 4 screws on the slave cylinder, hold it vertically with the hose being on top, push the piston by hand all the way in 3 or 4 times. Done. Super easy no mess and no need for another cap. Takes all of 5 mins. Plus it can be done without a helper. Oh the clutch paddle must be up. If it is depressed the air will not purge up through the tank.

I gotta 2010 cascadia and its leaking from the housing where the slave cylinder is, don't know if i should change the slave cylinder myself or take it to mechanic, im more worried about how to bleed the system..
@anthonyjackson68075 жыл бұрын
Was the slave cylinder that second part he replaced? I normally add brake fluid and just pump the clutch until it comes back up. This time my clutch was hard to press down. I added brake fluid as usual but the clutch is still pretty stiff. It wont go past my brake pedal (towards the floor)

Can you use a bike pump to replace the compressor
@lonniekeller94165 жыл бұрын
You should be able to. The point of air pressure is to force the air bubbles down to the slave cylinder bleeder valve. Make sure to add plenty of brake fluid before you add pressure.

My clutch pedal is hard to press, do u think it will solve the problem if I bleed the air out? I changed the pedal and the slave cylinder
@usdpaulp5 жыл бұрын
It's supposed to be hard to push. If u have air it will be too easy to push and will not move the throw out bearing on the clutch.
@wowjusttoofunnywowjusttoof80915 жыл бұрын
I have a question What does it mean When your clutch go all way to the floor and don’t come back up Have to finesse the clutch to get it to stop
@lonniekeller94165 жыл бұрын
Detrick Landrum That is most likely a hydraulic problem. Simply bleed the system. If it doesn’t bleed then it’s probably going to be the slave cylinder, but I wouldn’t rule out the clutch master cylinder. A properly bled clutch will not stay on the floor.
@wowjusttoofunnywowjusttoof80915 жыл бұрын
Would I need to buy a new clutch
@lonniekeller94165 жыл бұрын
Detrick Landrum If it’s just a hydraulic issue then you will not. On the Cascadia you can remove the inspection cover and there will be a dial gauge that will tell you your clutch used. First step is belle the system.
