Very nice Martin. A correct size hole saw, 3/4" I think would have made it a little easier but you did just fine with the multiple holes and dremel tool clean up. I use a 3/4" holes saw with a very short pilot drill in it so as not to hit the headliner when drilling in from the outside. I think this will help allot of people who may be hesitant to drill holes in the roof of their vehicles. The NMO system is one of the best antenna mount systems and very durable, in my opinion. Also, good choice on the Larsen 5/8 wave mono band antenna. The best there is for 2m mobile operation. A little long if you try and park in a garage, but out on the road; the best. 73, Steve KC7TIL
@marjamada6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The hole saw was 3/4", but it was not hardened steel for cutting through a vehicle body, it was for wood. Yes, having the right tool for the job makes things easier. On the other hand, the video shows it can be done with only a cordless drill and an 1/8" bit, followed by a Dremel or equivalent. The Larsen was YOUR suggestion, so I take no credit, and I agree it's the best 2m antenna I've used.

ok guys after i check all the complaints i think maybe the only hubsan in good conditions was sold to me 🤣🤣because i bought my h501s standard and so far i didn't have any problem as the matter of fact i think is an excellent drone i just flew yesterday more than 1000 mts distance at 90 mts altitud with wind and RTH perfect, also in the past i think i got lucky because my eachine e011 arrived with a bad motor and banggood sent me a new one without even resend the bad one so i have no complaint with the hubsan neither with banggood

Why do so many people buy from China? You can get delivery in a few days from hubsanus.com out of New York. If you need to return, it will cost like $10. You might check out rcgroups. It's a forum of experienced rc hobbyists, not a name-calling bunch of first-time users. I think you'll find a lot of people there who understand how to use these vehicles and how to deal with their short comings. These are $200 drones with more features than anyone else offers at that price. DJI is nice. Used. $100 more. What's a spare battery cost?

Hi everyone, I am writing to you from Italy and also I am living a dispute with Gearbest where I bought 2 hubsan h 501 ss advance paying € 450.00 and finding myself with a drone that does not work well because it loses all the bare satellites while Is in flight and I run the camera with the risk of dropping it or losing it. I tried to make the last update but the problem remains and I do not know what to do since Gearbest wants to pay me $ 20. Did any of you find my own problem? I thank you if you can give me some advice. Best regards Francesco

Francesco, sorry to hear about your trouble with your Hubsan and Gearbest. Fortunately (I suppose), so many Hubsan users have had problems and found solutions, and posted videos here on YT, you can probably find someone to help you, if you describe the problem well. I was unable to find anyone to help me with my Hubsan, but you might do better.

My advice purchase using Paypal and avoid all the hassles. Also, I saw no mention by customer contacting Hubsan in CA, which is factory, not sales agent. In other words CYA.
@marjamada7 жыл бұрын
Good tip. I paid with PayPal, but they could not confirm that the postal service in China delivered the drone I shipped back, so they closed the case. Since PP used money from my bank, the suggested I ask the bank to file a claim, which I did - still waiting for results. As far as contacting Hubsan, I expected the kind of customer service I get with Amazon (big mistake!). If a product I buy on Amazon is defective, I contact Amazon and they get my money back; they even cover the return shipping. Not so with Banggood, so I will not buy anything from them again. Hubsan and Banggood are crappy companies.

You Were Using the Controller WRONG ! You bought the FPV1 (Advanced Controller)... Those buttons have Many Functions. Including LIVE Playback of what you recorded or photographed. That is what you entered when you pressed that button in your video. It's "kind of" complicated to figure out how to use the FPV1 Controller because it Was Not Designed for the H501S . It was Designed for the H109S X4 Pro. The way you format the TF card is on a computer/Laptop. Insert it Into the SD Card Reader and Format it to FAT32 BEFORE Inserting into the h501s. By removing the TF Card While the quad was powered on, you may have Corrupted that TF card... Also, I Do Not Like Bangood either. They are Horrible. However, the problem you encountered Did Not Seem like a Faulty Product, Rather a Lack of Instructions on How to Use the Controller.
@marjamada7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your tips. Isn't it interesting that none of what you are telling me is in the USER MANUAL? You are correct, the SD card should be inserted before starting the drone. In this video, I swapped cards while the drone was powered on, but when I tested the drone, I had the card in the drone on startup. The video doesn't show that. Hubsan packages this advanced controller with the H501s but fails to explain how to use it in the user manual. It does, however, say to press ENTER to start video recording and EXIT to take a photo, and neither button did what it was supposed to. Even the 'tutorial' video Hubsan has on YT fails to show how to use this drone. It was my first and LAST Hubsan. I have the DJI P3 and love it. I hope Hubsan goes bankrupt - they are too incompetent to run a business. They can't even write a decent user manual or make a usable tutorial.
@MarkSuttner7 жыл бұрын
I completely Understand what you're saying. The Main Reason The Transmitter Instructions are Wrong When you buy the H501S and the "FPV1" / "Advanced" / "H906A" .... Whatever you want to call that controller is Because It was Designed for the H109s X4 Pro. They Only Made One Instruction Manual for the Controller, Even though it Works Differently with the H501S !! All they did was take the H109S X4 Pro's Controller, Stuffed a GPS module inside it (So it can have the Follow Me Mode Function). The H109S Does Not Have a Follow Function. So, stuff a GPS Module inside, Bind it to a H501S, and then... Can sell the Setup for More Money !! That's It.... The H501S "Can" be a Great and Fun Quad, however it should be used with the "FPV2"/ "Standard"/"H901A" Controller !! Plain and Simple... Yes.... Even the Video Tutorial Isn't Correct. I'm Glad your Enjoying your Phantom... ! :)

banggood wouldn't even refund or replace a $3 flashlight for me. i sent them everything they wanted including pics and a video then they still gave me the run around. finally i gave up because it was only $3 but i learned my lesson a lot cheaper than you did. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH BANGGOOD! be careful they have ebay posts too so beware who you are dealing with before you send the money and always use paypal. in my opinion gearbeast is just as bad if not worse because their shipping is slower than banggood's. you have my sympathy on your bad experience with hubsan and banggood. you're not alone. there is a big x4 hubsan facebook page with thousands of members. you might want to join the group then post your experience. i know that shally girl is on there occasionally. take care and good luck with you phantom! facebook.com/groups/1655445394706994/

Yes Banggood Is Terrible in my Opinion as well. I don't think Gearbest is "That Bad"... Their Shipping "Can" be slow. However, their shipping speed / methods All Depend on what you purchase. Basically the More $ you spend on a product/products, they ship faster. For Example : I first ordered the h501s at $210 US. It arrived in 9 days. Then I ordered the h109s X4 Pro at $ 325 US. It Amazingly arrived in 4 days !!! Then ordered some antennas at around $22 US. those arrived in 10 days. I also ordered a spare h501s battery On the Same Day I ordered the antennas. However, the battery took 23 days to arrive. I figured out why it took so long, and Seriously Talked with them about that. I actually had to figure out where the battery package was On My Own, because they Could Not find it. It "would" have arrived the same time the antennas did but it got stuck in UPS Mail Innovations. It was sitting in a semi-truck in California for over 2 weeks!! Why? Because "UPS Mail Innovations" Waited until the truck was Full before departing. The only reason I was able to find where it was is because I work with a Retired Postal Worker. Also there are new Federal Laws Regarding shipment of Lithium Based Batteries. Anyways, It all depends on what you purchase and how much it costs(Also what type of shipping You Choose).... But, Yep... Hubsan Products Always seem to be a Gamble !

After 3-4 months of replacing a bad pigtail and having Hubsan replace my locator on the right stick, I have a working quad. I think you should have contacted Anne Lu at Hubsan and don't bother with Banggood as they are clueless to the issues. I only paid $240 for mine and that's the advanced transmitter.

Glad to hear you finally have a working drone. You know, it's not easy to know whom to deal with when buying from China. I buy from Amazon, because they have a great return policy and high standards for sellers (I am a seller on Amazon). If something I bought via Amazon is defective, Amazon takes care of it, even pays return shipping. So I'm used to go to the distributor, not the manufacturer. Banggood customer service sucks, period.

+1 Martin - I feel for you. I bought an H501S with Standard transmitter from Geekbuying.com that arrived with an FPV range defect (90-100 meters max range). This was at the end of January. I quickly filed a customer service ticket with Geekbuying, which was a complete joke. They claimed I'm the only customer to report this (very common) problem and for me to provide evidence (photos and a video) of the problem. Instead, I went directly to Hubsan's Shally Liu in 'customer service'. (What a joke!) It's now been over 3 months and Shallyy Liu has done everything possible to stall and delay fixing the problem so seems I'm stuck with a defective product. At least mine flies fine except for the range problem that many H501S owners suffer. Not only that, Geekbuying.com now refuses to sell to me. All total I've spent almost $1000 with them, including the 501, and they just recently refused my exact same credit-card-on-file payment for a $15 item. Oh well, it's their loss. Sadly, Gearbest, Banggood, and Geekbuying, etc. are all Chinese merchants who are all absolutely clueless about international sales, service, and support... amazingly same as Hubsan, another Chinese company. Sure the Chinese have low prices, but it's a huge gamble, as both of us have learned the hard way. Lately I've been buying small stuff from Banggood with no problem post-Geekbuying refusal, but did have a hard time getting a refund for a ~$7 item that I never received. And I will never buy another Hubsan for the exact reasons you mentioned, with poor quality control being being near the top of my s**t list, just behind horrible/nearly non-existent customer service. Warranty? Hahaha!
@marjamada7 жыл бұрын
Wow, that sucks, but unfortunately it's so common. If you haven't tried range extension mods, there are many videos on YT using parabolic reflectors or boosters and other ways, like replacing the standard antennas with a $15 kit that replaces both antennae with those like the advanced transmitter. But you're right, range out of the box should be better. Well, join me in telling everyone about these crappy companies, maybe we can bankrupt them.
@Jimbo-in-Thailand7 жыл бұрын
Martin, I actually ordered the external antennas kit at the same time I ordered the 501 because I had already read some KZbin 501 comments complaining of limited range so hoped to nip that possible problem in the bud. Nope, sadly the kit helped only slightly so the defect lies elsewhere in the drone or transmitter. Just recently I removed the patch antenna's plastic enclosure to confirm it's facing correctly. I opted to leave off the enclosure and give it a test flight. I was shocked that FPV range magically went from 100-130 meters to 200-225 meters. But at that range my 501 keeps bouncing in and out of RTH mode. This never happened before at the shorter FPV range limit. What's truly sad is that the 501, for those buyers lucky enough to snag one that doesn't suffer quality control defects, is a very good drone. Other than the range problem mine has excellent flying qualities, even for complete novices. I've already given introductory lessons to several people, young and older, and not had a problem. Yep, Hubsan is really screwing up releasing poor quality defective products and then doing everything possible not to fix these defects. I personally feel that Hubsan won't be around much longer and that's sad but I'm learning that seems to be standard operating procedure for dealing direct with Chinese companies and Chinese retailers.
@marjamada7 жыл бұрын
I agree on all points. I really liked my H501s, it flew well, had good range out of the box, it was cute, small and portable... but it just would not record - bummer. Had I looked around better, I might have noticed that DJI was selling refurbished P3s at about the same price - didn't see that until I had no drone. I actually wish DJI made a smaller reliable drone like the H501s, because the P3 is a lot of drone for casual flying. On the upside, for the price of a risky H501s, you can get the P3 and not have the reliability issues that plague Hubsan. There is also a huge accessories market for add-ons. Oh well, if they go belly up, I won't be among those mourning. BTW, regarding range, there are numerous mods for the P3; one guy actually strapped on two extra batteries (I suppose wired them to the primary) and with range mod antennas got 6.2 miles! Eat your heart out, Hubsan.
@Jimbo-in-Thailand7 жыл бұрын
"Eat your heart out, Hubsan." LOL! AMEN brother! I would definitely go with Newegg's current deal of a factory refurbished standard P3 for $314 if Newegg would only ship to me here, and if importing drones into the former Land of Smiles wasn't such a crap shoot these days considering Thailand has been under the 'leadership' of a military junta since 2013. Democracy? What's that? Yep, Thailand's Fearless leader is cracking down heavily on all things "drone" and even import of anything using lithium batteries, smartphones included. Sadly, DJI is also on my crap list as I've had problems trying to deal with them direct, me being an expat living in Thailand. At least DJI products are top quality though. Right now I'm trying to find a good deal in Thailand on the new Xiaomi Mi 4K drone. It's got rave reviews and apparently flies and videos as well as DJI's P4 series and Mavic Pro model. I actually had the Mavic Pro on preorder late last year but finally gave up waiting in the queue. Looking back, I'm glad I jumped ship as it's supremely overpriced for what it is.

Just to add. You only get 45 day warranty from Banggood on RC Toys. This is worth keeping in mind. You also can not leave a user review on Banggood website after a short period of time. So any reviews best done on delivery day or shortly after. Of course one would hope items should work straight out of the box, I guess after 6 months is to much to ask.
@marjamada7 жыл бұрын
45 days? That might be okay for a $50 electric fan or other small purchase, but for a $300 drone it's pathetic. I had no idea their warranty was so short. Yet another reason not to buy from Banggood. Banggood and Hubsan are permanently on my SHIT LIST for companies to AVOID. Thanks for the tip, really good to know.
@Elecifun7 жыл бұрын
Banggood did the same to me, they just ignored my message and video link sent via their website. I wrote them the day after delivery. I web chatted 4 times and got no where. After they ignored me for a couple of weeks I asked Paypal to help out. Its been around 9 weeks and I have my money back. I had to pay return postage £28. I would also warn people against buying this nice looking but if you have a bad one, bad performing drone. There are hundreds of videos showing problems, even some well know reviewers have issues, they do not emphasise them but if you watch, some do make reference to weird behaviours of drone, near fly aways etc. I will also look for a Phantom myself after checking out 'End User' reviews, like yours if you do one. Good luck with new drone.

Thanks. I've been waiting for the wind to stop blowing so hard so I can fly the DJI P3. If you put the H501s next to the P3, it's obvious which one is the better deal, and close to the same price. I no longer have any interest in Hubsan - they just have not figured out how to run a business long term. If they produce some great drones and some shitty ones, sooner or later, everybody will know that they are unreliable and will stay away. Hence this video.

So you're one of the lucky ones who got a Hubsan that actually works! Wow, you people are rare. I hope your drone holds up to being used, it's really cute and compact, and when they work, they are really fun. I just don't trust Hubsan anymore to do quality control so that ALL of the drones they ship are made properly. One guy opened a Hubsan panel antenna and found it had been build backwards, facing the opposite direction! It's supposed to work with the Hubsan name towards the drone, but this one faced backwards. That just plain sucks. When I bought my 501s, I paid a little extra and got it from Amazon just in case I had to return it because of the horror stories I was reading on the net. Low and behold my 501s had issues as well. Contacted Hubsan tech support. They told me they know what the problem is and that I need to return it to them for repair and I need to pay the shipping. Nope - returned it to Amazon and went and found another drone. Same as you, I was going to buy the Phantom 3 refurb but went with the Yuneec Q500 4K refurb (the one I got looks brand new). What an amazing drone. Everything about it works and the video quality is simply amazing. I can't recommend this drone enough. And their tech support is outstanding - this company really cares about their customers and it's products. Yuneec has been an awesome experience...so far.
@marjamada7 жыл бұрын
That was smart to buy from Amazon - much better return policy. I am also an Amazon seller, and I know what standard Amazon expects from sellers, because they have a reputation to preserve. Not so, apparently, with Banggood. Yuneec is an excellent choice, and if I had had the money, I would have gotten the same drone. Nicely done.

That's correct, Banggood sells, and any seller has a responsibility to stand behind what they are selling, as Amazon does. At the very least they should acknowledge issues when they are brought to their attention by customers and try to resolve them ON BEHALF OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. Perhaps this is one difference between an American company doing business with Americans and a Chinese company doing business with prisoners of a dictatorship. Banggood is going to learn that doing business with Americans is different - we will not be cheated and just forget about it.

Sure, love to see what you have. I am currently busy building my house in the desert (SurvivalRetreatPlans.com), but I will eventually get back to you.

Alon, the cat is composed of several main parts which are assembled and locked together. The parts are drawn and supplied in .jpeg on the DVD, but I don't have them available here.

Where did you get PVC in the middle of a Jungle...
@marjamada7 жыл бұрын
I went to the nearest village, took a bus to a larger town and found the pipe at a hardware store, hired a guy with a VW pickup to drive me around shopping for supplies and to drop me back at the lake.

could this be used for interior walls as a divider or as a wide long length for craft work table.. not knowing the strength of it? i can see many uses for this if treated correctly.

Hazel, Papercrete has more uses than our imagination. There is a small village in south NM made mostly of PC, and it's still standing, built in the 70s. Yes, interior and exterior walls can be made of PC, be sure they are thick enough. People make tables, benches and other furniture from PC. It is not a concrete replacement where abrasion and compressive strength are needed, but otherwise, it's versatile. Protect from water as with wood, or it will rot.

Impressive and a lot of fun to watch the the Evolution! Great use of materials! thank you

By drilling through the case for your outlets, you defeated the Aluminum foil integrity of your case. Even the Smallest hole will negate any "Skin Effect" protection for the electronics inside. Your device is NOT E.M.P. proof!

You are correct. I was not fully informed about the effects of EMP at the time I made the box. The foil was a waste of time and foil. I now have metal containers large enough for this box and other sensitive equipment. Thank you for your observation.

In a Mother Earth News magazine published about the mid 1970's this was a feature article that showed how to build the mixer and how to mix the proportions for papercrete almost verbatum to your method... I have long since stored away the magazine and it became property of my ex-wife long ago... but I have always been curious as to how well these blocks would hold up if used in a high humidity environment....I remember the MEN article was also based in a real arid environment.
@marjamada8 жыл бұрын
Yes, an arid environment has the advantage that the PC does not need to be as rigorously maintained to keep out moisture as in a wetter region. It has to be protected like wood or it will rot if wet for long periods. However, it won't soften, as it cures like concrete.

what the emp does? just destroying electric power production? or electric devices too? better get candles or an oil lamp...
@marjamada8 жыл бұрын
There is hardly room here to explain EMP, but you can find information online by searching 'EMP'.

If this is suppose to stay in the box. My only problem with that is components create heat. I see you have what looks like foil tape which is going to keep the heat in the box unless you put fans to take the heat out.
@marjamada8 жыл бұрын
Excellent observation, thank you. I have been using this box daily for about a year - powering small appliances at night, charging by day - and heat is not an issue. The inverter, however, does generate heat, and it has its own fan, so while using the inverter, the box lid is open. This was planned, as one must open the box to turn on the inverter.
