Pl correct your self. During Mughals era Urdu did not exist. Persian was the official language. Allama Qbal, Zafar Ali khan and Faiz Ahmed Faiz were all Punjabis but used Urdu as their medium of expression. Languages never get strength from.politics or govts.

Urdu is just an advanced version of Punjabi. Urdu was given the great strength by Punjabi scholars. Punjab was divided into two religions groups that is Sikhs and Muslims. Sikhs adopted gurmukhi as their basic alphabets. Gurmukhi originates from devnagri/Hindi. Muslim Punjabis have to compete the Sikhs so as a religious dialect Urdu. Present day status of Muslim Punjabi lacks serious literature. All the serious Punjabi literature is in Gurmukhi. It's wrong to say that it's shameful to speak Punjabi. Only one percent Punjabis can speak English. Punjabi remained stagnant and has acquired the status of a dialect. Right now people feel it a great burden. Language is a tool and it must be used in professions.

Biggest reason for the regression of Punjabi is religion. All the religious literature and translations of Koran are in Urdu. The main reason of written Punjabi is it's alphabets. Real Punjabi is written in Gurmukhi. The natural vocabulary bank of Punjabi is Hindi/Sanskrit. The languages make their own place. Now all Punjabi students have to learn and excel in Urdu to get better positions. Punjab cultivated Urdu and it's product of Punjabi.

Pakistani are not true Punjabis because they don't respect their mother tongue so the name of West Punjab should be changed to Urdustan or West Bihar. That will be a pacca nishani of a gulam quom. They have an inferiority complex about their own mother tongue. Shame, shame on the rootless people.🎉

Urdu was created in UP with parsi script by British for Muslims of India. 90% of present of day Pakistan could not speak Urdu before 1947. Parsi, Punjabi,pashtun and Sindhi was dominant languages of Pakistan before 1947. Even Jinnah didn't know Urdu as his mother tongue was Gujarati.Urdu's grammar is from Sanskrit/Hindi. Urdu is a combination of majority Hindi spoken words with administrative words of Parsi, Turkish and Arabic words. Earlier Urdu was called Hindavi. It was imposed late 1880s. British didn't encourage Punjabi language as they had fear that Hindu Punjabis and muslim Punjabis could unite against British.
