For a long time I thought Helen Lewis was Helen Zaltzman because they sound so similar and Helen Zaltzman disappeared around the same time that Helen Lewis got more popular.

This almost 6 minutes pile of bullshit not only underlines why Radio 2 is screwed up, but also why the BBC is a woke-ridden disaster. I know a good few lady friends who have a billion times more sense in their fingernails than Helen Thomas has in her entire body. Every single thing she says in this video is complete & utter bollocks. And isn't it ironic that, in her so-called "points", there are pictures of Simon Mayo & Vanessa Feltz who both quit Radio 2 since she's been in charge. No wonder people are cancelling their licence fee. How can anyone support an organisation that allows an idiot like this to hold a job as controller of a national network. Utterly diabolical

Very usefil video. Personally I would put 'Being your authentic self' at number one. This was kind of alluded to in trait 19.

So good that you mention talking one-to-one. When I started on-air our station manager talking to a bunch of newbies advised that when you talk, talk to a close friend who you've not seen for a few years: this makes you intimate and personal but not overly familiar. This also requires a few language tricks. For example you don't say 'some listeners might have entered this competition". Instead, talking to only one person, you say: 'You might have entered the competition, if so, we'll be drawing it ....But...if you haven't ring us now on [phone number]. I find the same habit works in live presentations or public speaking. It really gives you a warmth that the anonymizing 'hello everyone' really destroys and makes you instantly remote from the audience...which is a collection of individuals.

Geoff Lloyd is an amazing, engaging broadcaster. I love radio, but it's so bland without the likes of people like him. Make radio fun again and trust us to embrace the unknown and be open to new formats and music.

About a decade ago I thought about why we don't already have proliferated customized internet radio where you can choose which kind of personally or artificially narrated news (local, international, geopolitics, business, sport, tech) and music genres will be played to you. One would think that this thing should be predominant after so many years of technology being available already as it is a vastly superior service due to customization but while you can make FM radio for car listeners next of free of charge, internet radio will be always costlier due to the need for paid mobile internet connection, and until that change or mobile internet will become so cheap to make cost next to irrelevant, classic FM would likely remain the primary source for car listeners. Personally just the ability to choose topics and perfect your understanding and keeping up with topics that interest you should make internet radio vastly preferred choice but of course mobile internet is not free of charge by default. Perhaps there could be made an app that allows you to preload news and music for your usual work/school travel trip & lunch brake every morning from the internet available in your home without the need to use limited internet data and questionable availability while on the road at least until internet connection for cars become proliferated enough to be a standard in a same manner as some streaming video services allow you to download your favorite shows on your phone and watch them later without the need for constant internet connection. In some form, these things are available already for audio listeners, but there still seems to be a user experience barrier that prevents precached customized internet radio to flourish. I also think that people willing to pay to video stream services more just to skip ads will likely be willing to pay for the same ad-free service monthly subscription in case of customised internet radio as time is money and time not spent on listening to ads is sometimes time saved and worth paying for, at least for some...

Are you a supporter of convicted serial abuser stalker Alex Belfield? I'm only asking because the date of your comment coincides with Alex Belfield being sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison, and your account is less than 1 year old, and there seems to have been a number of accounts less than 1-year-old who are fans of Alex bellfield who are attacking his victims by leaving nasty comments like yours. If you are a supporter of a convicted serial abuser stalker could you please explain why you support such a nasty person and why you are harassing his victims?

I really think it's the internet and social media that has paradoxically destroyed a lot of creativity and comedy. It's allowed everyone to comment immediately and spontaneously express their feelings of being offended. The often promised extension of freedom of speech hasn't been realised and has actually gone into reverse. It's sadly destroying creativity, freedom of speech and democracy. If that's happened in 20 years imagine what'll happen in another 20 years. It's a terrifying thought.

This is a great presentation about the history of presenter comedy on radio. Simon looks like a very attractive man and his transition from male to female is extremely good and astonishing. She's very lucky to have been able to transition so successfully. Many aren't so successful because they don't have lucky genes or an adaptable body. I still shine a light for CJ Munroe (previously Glenn Richards before transition). Here she is . . . . . kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGqwfpJ5h96BosU

Talking heads on TV do the same thing, it reduces their professionalism instantly and they come across like sophomores on the College radio, more impressed with themselves than the viewer (or listener).
