Not saying it's THE problem, but Kenya started downhill when they outlawed big game hunting. Suddenly, farming was everything, animals had no value, there was no income from myriad hunting fees, no money for conservation of flora nor fauna, the land became a moonscape of farms, and the droughts started. Much like Central California. We need to caretake the land, not just utilize it.

India is dealing with desertification by digging reservoirs throughout the landscape on the upslope side of a parcel. When it finally rains in Kenya they need to be prepared to store the surface water runoff on the landscape and allow it time to percolate down and re-hydrae the soil. They need to revitalize the water situation before planting trees. Permaculture techniques are needed and different grazing techniques. Agroforestry combined with permaculture are a more sustainable solution. Cloud seeding and GMO's deal with the symptom, they do not deal with the underlying problem of the interrupted water cycle. Entire regions in India have done this and have revitalized barren land that had been overgrazed and de-forested.

O grande erro das pessoas é queimar a vegetação.

Our best chance is a combination of planting lots of trees and seeding rain in these parts of the country. In addition, we need to capture the rain that's seeded for irrigation purposes.

The Proff makes a lot of sense! I have noticed that in Kenya there’s no zoning of land use, that’s a big problem! That’s why we have so many 1/4 and 1/2 acres that can’t help anyone…if the government clamped this culture, we could start recovering forests! Don’t issue title deeds for land less than 10-15 acres in arable areas and also require so much trees per acre of cultivated land..

As a Kenyan and someone who really loves forests 🌳 🌳 and greenery, this video has really made me scared of our country’s future! 😢 And despite all these destruction, president Ruto still had the guts to lift the logging ban imposed by his predecessor! He can’t be championing for the planting of 15 billion trees while at the same time allowing people to cut down fully grown mature trees from our forests! What progress will we make surely? Lol

There is a solution but political leaders are misusing county funds instead of engaging those with knowledge to solve the problem. I have a solution that I have applied in laikipia where the same desertification process is taking place. In a nutshell, this is what is happening: 1) increase in livestock stocking rates under reduced rainfall conditions. 2) overgrazing , removal of all grass cover leading reduced organic matter/carbon in soil. 3) low rainfall water infiltration because of bare ground. 90% of rain water becomes runoff after rains and is lost. 4 ) low recovery of pastures due to low water infiltration, which are grazed immediately before seeding and therefore there is reduced seeds making future recovery slow and difficult. 5) The downward vicious cycle starts here with no sight of hope; BUT there is a solution.
