I just came across your channel. I am currently taking an online course for Med intrpt- and am anxious to begin my sourcebook of symbols that will work best for me. My question is why would you rely on something other than arabic numbers when making notes. after trying your challenge I came up with o, tw,th,f,fv,s,sv,e,n, c (just a little diff)but am trying to understand the circumstance this would benefit over writing a number. I look foward to your response, and researching your videos. I also am checking out the site- congratulations!!

I am not sure if I will be able to discuss this with the judge, it"s not easy as it looks!
@Interpretrain
@Interpretrain Жыл бұрын
Yes, it can be challenging. It is our duty, however, to discuss with the judge any instances in which we are asked to perform any duty that falls outside of our professional scope. We must develop the tools to do so in a courteous and assertive fashion, instead of shying away from this responsibility. As tough as it may seem, it's what we must do to comply with our code of ethics. I wish you lots of success in this journey.

here to echo the comments of others - starting as a healthcare interpreter, feeling pretty confident, but worried that my notes will be sub-par and distract more than help. You explain things clearly and have helped me to gain a bit more confidence before my first assignment.

I know it can be hard, especially at first. Please be patient and persistent. It takes lots and lots of practice, but with time and perseverance you will see improvement. I promise. For the time being, it's important to interrupt the speakers as often as you need to interpret the message faithfully. We wish you the best in your professional journey.

i dont understand how this would work in legal setting / medical setting or any other more complicated setting apart from this light social interaction setting of "didnt call, house, drinks, left, came in, sleep, work etc"
@Interpretrain
@Interpretrain Жыл бұрын
All the verbs you listed in quotations come up often in regular speech. Therefore, they are also used in medical and legal settings. That's why it behooves us to have a note-taking symbol ready to jot down these meanings.

i dont understand why in diaganol and not in the same line
@Interpretrain
@Interpretrain Жыл бұрын
Jotting down your notes diagonally is the result of combining two techniques: vertically and shifting. These two techniques increase the clarity of your notes because they allow you to understand how the parts of the speech relate to each other. Distributing your notes on the page in this diagonal way helps you distinguish the main ideas from the supporting ideas, which in turn allows you to understand your notes better and recall the message more accurately. We hope this helps. We wish you great success in your professional journey.
