I got the 1 inch foil dot stickers on Amazon Canada $10 not the same ones you had but they do work I have a bag full of plastic tournament pieces tried a few it detected them just fine. Now I have extra pieces if I ever need to promote pawns.

The Chessup boards still look like toys to me. Granted, that is a shallow point of view, but I cannot shake the feeling. I far prefer DGT, Millennium, and Chessnut.

Is a Centaur mod something you might attempt since you seem to be skilled with doing your own mods? I'm trying to find someone who shot a video, but all I can find is people filming "shorts" on youtube about it working, but they dont film the whole process. I got a centaur 2nd hand, and I'm really tempted after reading about all it can do after the mod....

Also, do you have any experience with the Millennium Supreme Tournament 55 Electronic Chess Board or the DGT tournament electronic boards? The reason for my question is that I have three large cats who like to lay on my chessboards, so I was wondering if a 20+ pound cat would cave in the middle of those boards? I have an old Excalibur Grandmaster auto-sensory computer chess board that I cannot leave unattended due to this issue.

I'm seriously considering purchasing a Centaur. I love the simplicity of. Just wondering, while I've read reviews of players saying they've won against the computer at the " Friendly " mode, I've read others saying that after a fair number of games, they still have not won any. I understand you have suceeded. Kudos. After several years, are you still enjoing it, and secondly, can you play by taking a piece away from computer , to " balance" the game if need be ? Like your good self I absolutely love this board. I used to play chess as a kid at school and I became the local school champion and like so many chess players you struggle to find someone to play with and it just died to death. I’ve had a number of chest computers that were either unbelievably easy or impossible to beat. Chest of fell by the wayside really. In 2018 I develop Sepsis and went through all the dying process but I wonderful NHS got me back but there was damage including the frontal part of my brain. I didn’t know where I live I didn’t recognise friends. Nothing it had all gone Overtime. There are bits there but it’s not like it used to be. I find I get quite a severe headache at the frontal part of the brain it’s like a pressure where the scarring is from the lack of blood and what blood there was was poisonous anyway so I decided to buy this chessboard after looking into it because I realised it played a little bit better Than I played. This meant the fact I was absolutely terrible and had to relearn how piece is moved I could correct it and relearn the game of chess is now the 19th of October 2024. I’m sat in my conservatory having a game of chess with this board. It’s amazing. I also found out that doing something I enjoy. I have approximately 27 minutes before I get a headache and the advantage of this board is I can just stop playing and return to it in an hour two hours or the next day a brilliant bit of kit just love it and if it broke tomorrow I would buy it again in an instant wouldn’t even give it a consideration and like yourself I bought some stickers and stuck them underneath a much better set love it. Quite the wholesome review. I ended up going with the Chessnut Air a year ago. It's got some gizmos and gadgets and whatnot but I really wish I would have gone with the centaur based only on not needing to use another device to play. I hope they end up upgrading this model some day.

did this board make you play better over time? Especially the "challenge" mode, where its supposed to be slightly better than the player, and thus pushing you... or is it just for fun to play but you havent noticed any improvements in your games after all those games on this machine? thx

It is 2024 and I just ordered one myself 😊 What decided me to go for this board is the ease of use, e-ink display, large board, battery, etc. But especially the fact that you just can do another move than the computer is telling you to do. It just accepts your alternative move. Great for training purposes. Even this board is “already” 4 years or so old, I did not find any other alternative for this board and I just do not want to be dependent of smartphones and apps that lots of new boards require. I think and hope I will love this board.

Very happy to see this recommendation by someone who doesn't normally do chess videos. I also have this one and I agree with your review. I also agree with not using the hints. I think it's better to evaluate your mistakes and learn that way. Otherwise, it becames a soulless and boring exercise in memorization rather than engaging creativity.
