Has AI automated some part of Data analyst job role ? Is it going to automate some part of data engineering job role also in coming days ?
@ferdinandsteenkamp1333Ай бұрын
Coming from a software engineering background into the data field, I find it crazy how many magic black boxes the average data engineer deals with. A lack of software knowledge leaves them at the mercy of whatever tool they know. Data and software are two sides of the same coin, my favourite reverse take of this is by Mike Acton: "The transformation of data is the only purpose of any program."

Isn't it kind of obvious that you rank projects by complexity/ cost as well as business value? Everyone does that. Am I missing something about her point?

is your product a good fit if i have use case where a specific data product has been used million times in a day by hundreds of users ? is it optimal to materialize the data every time when user calls for it ?

Very helpful, could not find any examples on how to insert an array, was trying with single quotes '' but it would complain, instead with """ like you did it worked, thanks!

Great discussion. There are lot of areas AI can assist. It shouldnt be only finding ways to intrude the privacy and selling ads.

Gents, After 20 years of dba career, your book together with your podcast is just great help on my data engineering journey. You are doing a splendid job without bothering about view or thumbsup counts and focusing on just reaching whoever needs information. Thanks a lot for helping us understanding the data domain.

Some general thoughts on the discussion: (1) I've always felt that if a data team and business|functional owner can connect what they do to something like the DuPont model, then it's easier to articulate business value (2) the challenge with some IT organizations is that they can have goals and professional aspirations that can be disconnected to business strategy, goals aren't business strategy, (3) maybe having a CDO/CAO role doesn't make sense because we don't do data products because we like magenta bar charts or are keen on tuning a machine learning model to improve accuracy and precision,. we do it to drive shareholder value.

Dave has such a grounded view of the evolution of tech. He’s comments on the Gartner hype cycle are so spot on.

The first 5 minutes of the zoom had me in tears. Benedict Arnold. Commodore 64. The espresso cup. Dave is a riot. And that silent response to RUST. Hilarious. Plus, it's so relatable as to how IT works and Data Science. As an OR major, I appreciate the references to Decision Science.

Really good discussion. I'm coming from a Microsoft Power BI viewpoint, but much of the discussion about modeling, testing is relevant to all.
