You might of to drive aways to get it, but REC-90 gasoline has no ethanol in it and is intended for 2-cycle winter storage of marine engines. It likely holds up for 3-4 years well stored. I started my lawnmower on the first pull with year old REC-90.

Don't ignore an evacuation order. You are not a fire department. Your water stream is too small and will be blown away by the wind. Sprinklers on your roof could help.

For those who have lost their homes in the Southern Californian and choose to rebuild; maybe getting an underground water-tank (solely for fires) would be a good idea, To spread out costs, you could get: 1. The underground water one year. 2. The next year, get a system of metal water-pipes for sprinklers around your house and property. 3. Thev next year, get the pumps and something to power them with. This might be a way of making the installation affordable.

I am seeing these kind of vids popping up all over You Tube...but cannot get anyone who sells these pumps to deliver to my house in LA....It seems to be illegal to buy any gas powered engine or device Jan 1 2025....I came to California from Florida...4 years ago. I have a lot of experience with natura disasters.... and can tell you that not only can you buy gas engine pump or generator in Florida ..but FEMA will give you one if you were in a Hurricane. This is NOT California's first big fire. They almost lost LA back in 2017-18....and before that a few times. Why are these state officials making this so hard for us. ? You would think they would be embracing this kind of thing considering how many homes were left totally on their own for lack of fire trucks or personal in such a fast moving and large scale fire (blow torch ). We need action here...not nice words. ACTION. ...and not just by state...by FEMA (Fed ) too. This kind of pump should be provided by FEMA for anyone in "Red Flag " zone....which I am. And not just the pump...but a generator too. I have been without elecrtic here for many days now.....and every time wind goes over 60 mph gust ...they cut us off. So then there is no lights..or heat..for days. ..and it goes into 40's here ..and is that today. Someone needs to get off their fat ___ ...and start helping...rather than hurting......and creating more red tape.

I sold hundreds of Honda 2-3” water pumps and Generators in the Malibu foothills 15 years ago for fire prevention. This was a no brainer IMO. Every single house has a swimming pool with 10-50,000 Gallons of surplus water. “Be Prepared, not sorry”!

What a silly response. Get your own setup to stay and protect your own home from the beginnings of a wildfire so that no harm will come to your property. Or, use this engine to power a water system that you plumb to spray the entire perimeter of your home using your pool water. First sign of a fire, set it and go to safety. But make sure you have enough fuel to power the system for a period of hours if you are not there.

All gas powered engine devices, 25hp or less, including this water pump are banned in the state of California. You cannot purchase one in the state. Amazon will not ship to any California address. This went into effect after this video was posted. It is not illegal to use a gas powered pump in the state just to purchase in California or ship to a California address.

This is the type of really stupid law that hinders homeowners that are just trying to be prepared. IMO, they should repeal that law. If I still lived in California, I would buy the pump online and ship it to an address out of state. Then I would drive to pick it up. My understanding (looking into it just a few days ago) is that it is only illegal to sell these under-25HP engines in CA and for companies to ship them to CA. It is NOT illegal to use them in CA. I now live in WA state. I tried to buy some ground squirrel bait/poison off of Amazon and ship it to my address in WA. I couldn't do it. So I shipped it to an Amazon drop store in Idaho. Then I picked it up in Idaho.

Depending on the sprinklers that you select, you may need to put a water pressure reducer or pressure regulator in the line between the pump and the sprinklers. Depending on the pump chosen, it may have an output pressure of 75-100 psi. A regular tripod sprinkler head may not be able to handle that much pressure. Just a thought.

@maxsmart8954 true the hydrants didn't malfunction, with 1000's of houses having water pouring out of their mains there was no water psi left for dozens of hydrants or even garden hoses. I've spoken to "first" responders who were on the Eaton fire. Even media confirmed this.

@@NancyCronk In Australia, in my suburb of Davidson in Sydney, we put a small sticker sign at street level that our house has a swimming pool and the water can be accessed and used in any fire emergency. The fire responders then know they can access that water and have permission to make use of it and access the property. Nearly every house with a pool has this sticker in our fire prone area. Also the community collects funds and places portable (a car can tow these units), diesel water pumps in selected streets. There has been one at the end of my street parked ready for use, tested once per year, for the last 10 years. It has never been trashed by vandals. The local fire responders (volunteers and professional paid ones) hold a BBQ in the local park regularly and collect funds and explain what the portable pump is for and ask people to display the pool stickers, contribute funds, become a volunteer fire fighter and look after the portable pumps parked ready for use. They test the units regularly and Ive seen up to 800 metres of flexible fire hoses attached to it tested on occasions. We l(in Australia) learn from the LA area as we have similar fire risks. I have seen several uTube videos of firefighters in the Palisade's area using swimming pool water and small hand carried pumps to save houses. It saved some houses. The only difference is that here in Sydney we display the stickers to grant access to swimming pool water for fire emergency responders. In the videos of the Palisade's fires I see there were many swimming pools full of water not used because the fire responders did not know where they were and were not confident they could enter properties and use them. Where they did use them, some houses were saved - there are several videos showing this. There are also videos of many fire trucks and responders saying they could do nothing because of lack of water, yet there were swimming pools full of water close by. In my area of Davidson (Sydney) the fire responders do not fully rely on fire hydrants. They may or may not be available. Swimming pools are an excellent alternative source of water and the portable pumps that have a towbar and can be moved easily are a good option that has very strong community support. That way each pool owner does not have to invest in fire fighting equipment and skills - but they can contribute some funds on a shared basis o provide portable pumps that can use pool water. Also, a small number of our Australian politicians contribute their time and resources to volunteer work on an unpaid basis. In my area, Davidson, a member of parliament who became Prime Minister has spent more than 10 years as a volunteer fire fighter. He does not promote this. Ive seen him do an all night firefighting back burn in my area and not seek any publicity. His name is Tony Abbot. He was Prime Minister for a brief period. He is still a volunteer fire fighter and turns up to fight fires at peoples houses from time to time. We do not promote him, we just believe it is a good response that members of our parliament provide hands-on and unpaid time in support of communities. USA could request this from public service people. In Australia, we have empathy with those in the USA affected by fires. We share learnings as we have similar geographical risks. We learn from fires in both countries. We will donate funds to your recovery charities. From Australia, we will help those in the Palisade's area with the disaster recovery and future fire disaster prevention. May we both share experiences, learnings and ways to reduce future fire impacts. Also, thanks to those in the USA who have had empathy to people in Australia impacted by wild fires in 2019. Respect to all those who lost houses in the Palisades suburb. t.

Great plan, but if you have no fire experience, you're really risking your life. The system is great though, even if you evacuate. If the hydrants run dry, have this system set up and ready for arriving firefighters to use!

Getting a trash pump that runs on BOTH propane and gasoline is optimal. A five gallon propane tank will run for a long time, compared to one gallon of gas in the pump tank. Propane does not go bad and does not clog carburetors. You can also set this type of machine up as an un-manned sprinkler system for the roof (that is why propane is preferred if you have to leave - it keeps running).
