I am older now 73 and my wife is 66. We have been married over 37 years. We live in a retirement community and have friends who are even older than us and have been married even longer and unfortunately I see little or no display of affection and in fact most of the women have maginalized their husbands and worse show outright disrespect to them, like wipinig their faces or having no conversation with them or worse demeaning them. So take this tale with a grain of salt. And i see that in my marriage too and we are the only ones still married from her friends that got married at the same time as us. Ive always tried to put my wife first and yesterday I came to the realization that it wasn't worth it. I busted my rear doing things for her around the house as I know through love language that the house is very important to her and that things i do for her around here should mean a lot to her. This went on all day and that also included cooking a nice meal and guess what? The only comment she made was that I forgot to turn off the water in the sink! So all she cared about was what I didn't do right so why should I try??? And she is always on her phone and it is as if I am not there at all. Not that I am planning to get divorced. We will die together like our parents and grandparents but it would be nice to be treated with respect and understanding. Forget the purported love. Just my two cents. Chime in please and no flames just an honest discussion.

There are millions of couples just like you, why do women become so bitter and spiteful. I left my wife 3 years ago, it cost me not being able to retire aged 55 but she didnt deserve me. Your wife doesn't deserve you either.

@@kevinbird1104 I understand. We pulled together for the common good for a real long time. Till after both our boys we out on their own and even after. But things are different when you retire and you are around them all the time. Most men just do not have the same social life as women. Women are far more social creatures and that is ingrained into them. I think work is ingrained into me and solitariness. This is totally normal in the animal world. The male lions, tigers, bears, are independent of the herd to a large extent. So when we are retired, we are around the house too much and they dont like it. And more too. I do a fir job of keeping myself busy but its limited. On my own, I am out of the house golfing and working out. But I have a huge social media presence and am on many weekly social media engagement lists. And she does not like me sitting at my computer so many hours a day but she does it with her phone and tablet so go figure.

A caterpillar makes a cacoon that will turn themself into a butterfly. A man comes to snip this transformation open. The butterfly is then consequently unable to develop properly and may never fly. Anyone else see the simililarities?
