is a darce choke considered a blood choke?
@bjjmentalmodels15 күн бұрын
Primarily yes, but the Darce uses several different choking mechanics. We'll be talking about hybrid chokes in an upcoming mini-episode.

I love the emphasis on building autonomous learners. That’s the whole core of how my school operates as well and I love seeing more and more like minded people steering the ship in this direction.

Why use the British pronunciation for lever? It seems a bit extra.

Alignment = Posture Structure Base There is no submission ! It's a position It's a potision that you have taken away his 3 things. Base is what you apply force to: Maybe the floor , or the partner or even the wall.. • 🥋 Introduction to BJJ Mental Models: Steve and Matt Kwan discuss their backgrounds and introduce the podcast focused on mental models, strategies, and concepts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. • 🤼 Diverse Training Backgrounds: The hosts highlight their unique approaches to Jiu-Jitsu-Steve as a hobbyist and Matt as a competitor. • 💡 Concept of Alignment: They introduce alignment in BJJ, explaining its components-posture, structure, and base-and its importance in maintaining advantageous positions. • 🏋️ Alignment Explained Scientifically: Matt describes how alignment principles relate to human biomechanics, using terms like levers and wedges to break down Jiu-Jitsu movements. • 🧠 Mental Models in Jiu-Jitsu: Steve discusses the concept of mental models, popularized in the business world, and their application in BJJ for effective learning and decision-making. • 📐 Posture, Structure, and Base: The hosts explain these three components of alignment-posture (spine alignment), structure (limb alignment), and base (ability to generate or absorb force). • 🦵 Using Levers in Jiu-Jitsu: Matt elaborates on how understanding and manipulating levers in the body can enhance control and efficiency in techniques. • 🦾 Force Vectors and Frames: The importance of recognizing and countering force vectors is discussed, alongside the use of frames to maintain alignment. • 🧩 Applying Alignment to Techniques: They provide examples of how alignment principles can be applied to specific techniques, such as armbars, to improve effectiveness and control. • 🔄 Phases of Guard: The three phases of guard-engagement, maintenance, and recovery-are detailed, emphasizing the importance of grip fighting and lever control from the start.

Love this thought process I think this style of thinking plus drilling, studying etc just thinking of grappling in different ways is and amazing way to learn.

Problem with most instructionals are they are priced according to duration, or that is how it seems. Would rather learn 3 things that I know will work in different situations

Wish I could give this episode more than one thumbs up. You unpacked lot of good stuff from learning dynamics to role of the instructor. If you get a chance read a bit of Paulo Freire’s theory about banking model of education vs problem based learning. I think it relates well to Eco and IP models.

Agree 100%, a good coach knows when to give important details and when to keep their mouth shut and just let people work.

🤣🤣🤣 Just 2 questions: 1) I publish in scientific research journals, can I maybe also use Reddit as a valid reference in my research articles? 2) Priit I bought many of your defensive strategy dvd's on Bjj Fanatics, if I show proof of purchase can I get a refund? even if it is helping my overall game?

Hi man! Been listening to your podcast with great joy. Thank you for all the content. I want to comment my thoughts on defense vs offence aspect of the jiu jitsu. As you talked about a year ago in f- your jiu jitsu episode, the thing that holds back a bjj practitioner most is his ego. And i think even if we want to, to put that ego away completely or majorly takes a great time. In this phase i really think the defensive side of the bjj helps. Because when you go for a submission you think the position you will be in if you fail, and it is often a pin. If you cant picture yourself getting out of that pin you may restrain your attacks and thats where the knowledge of defense in the scope of pin or submission escapes helps. Like if you have confidence to escape every disadventageous position you can try submissions and be aggressive without holding back. The thing i think what must not be done in defence is staying in that disadventegous position and stalling yourself. Thank you for the great content again and have a great day.
