Nearly 2 years since this update. Six months since they promised a new channel with a 2-minute promo, and episode 38 of Binky dropped a year ago. We're past cheeky and into taking the piss boys.

On a balance of probabilities, the 9 years & counting Project GT6 Restomod build by Fanatik Builds in Canada might be finished before Project Binky. Inserting a Corvette LS4 was the least of their difficulties. Everything has had to be machined, welded, ground, polished etc., most recently including custom pedals & building better windscreen wipers.

Started another channel and i guess dumped the first one. Glad i never become a patreon cos i would be pissed off. If you kept all your followers updated it would be ok but apart from a post on the channel which turned out to be bs nothing. Shitty move i reckon.

In typical BOM fashion, re-inventing the wheel because good enough is just not good enough XD But I'm pretty sure that's a major part of why we all love to watch what you've got going on. You could have just laser printed a circuit, iron transferred it to a blank and etched it. We were doing that in our grade 10 electronics class... 23 years ago! Having said that, I am looking forward to the solder printing episode :)

Really don't understand the circuit boards faffing. The industry standardized on FR4 with (mostly) ENIG finish for good reasons. It's very, very cheap, it's incredibly reliable and manufacturers in China (and other places, but China is by far the best option in 2024) will reproduce your design errors flawlessly 😭and ship your boards within a couple of days of ordering. I really don't understand why you'd do it any other way.
@qwertquadrat4 ай бұрын
Sure, letting others manufacture it is easy, but if you can do it yourself and you are in for the journey, why not 🤷 I don't think Binky was ever done for the easy route. Btw. I'm really curious how they did the circuit board printing in detail, I think their solution may be quite fun.
@jsleeio4 ай бұрын
@@qwertquadrat one approach I've seen done (IRL at the local hackerspace) is to use a CNC mill to remove copper where you don't want it. The guy I saw doing it had spent a lot of time perfecting the process, and it worked well. I don't remember what the boards he used were called, but they were like Veroboard but had one big rectangle of copper (not strips) and had no drilled holes except in the corners for mounting . One of the steps was using a special mill tool as a continuity tester - he'd go over the whole board in a fine grid before milling and use the vertical axis scale to build a map of where the board was warped - so he could adjust depth of cut to not mill too deep. Sure, once you master the process you can make prototype PCBs really quickly - a few hours vs. a few days - but the resulting boards don't have soldermask and don't have very flat/even copper. Also there's a limit to how small features can be, as you'd have significant risk breaking a lot of mill tooling ($$$!) at the tiny sizes most modern components are manufactured in.
@qwertquadrat4 ай бұрын
That's also a nice process. For the 3D printer approach BOM pioneers here, I came to realize that using a printer that accepts two materials, you could print (low temperature) solder and regular filament together into any 3d structure you like, essentially allowing you to print complex internally wired structures. Potentially one can also have fun with printing in multiple stages and placing components in between - that could be fun and lead to some unexpected prints.

I am currently working through a sort of DIY rehabilitation and the effects of restricted bloodflow are making me reconsider studying medicine. Loosening a muscle knot near the spine genuinely affects digestion and a plethora of other tiny things. *And* these are just simple, insignificant, banal muscle knots. I cannot imagine what those G forces were doing to them. That much of a shift had to have had an effect. I hope none were long term.

Only damage I can maybe foresee is maybe neurological? What happens is that the blood pools in the venous system decreasing venous return essentialy making the heart pump "dry" so you loose bloodpressure. A fighter pilot or similar have much higher g-loads but they are intermittent giving the body time to recover circulation and perfusion. These loads are not that high per se in comparison but they never let up and they are very uniform, that is why this was such an unique and different situation.

When CART split up due to some drama with Tony George IIRC, that was the downfall of quality sports car racing in the US, and NASCAR was able to fill the void; previously NASCAR was second or third place to other forms of Auto Racing.
