I think this song would have gone down well on the Brit Funk scene in the early 80’s; so it’s a pity it missed the cut somehow for the album. There were weaker tracks on the album in my opinion.

@waynefoote3781, I listened to "That's the Way I Like It" and you nailed those vocals! I get why you'd defend the song, especially since you were right there in the thick of it. But I've got to push back on the idea that the track wasn't strong enough. In my view, it was definitely strong enough. The challenge is that It doesn't really gel with the rest of the "New Plateau" effort. "That's the Way I Like It" would have slotted in better on the "Bad Enuff" album, not just because of its vibe but also because it reminds me of a toned-down version of "Sizzlin' Hot" from the Stone Jam LP. The whole point of "New Plateau" seemed to be about slimming down Slave's lineup and freshening up their sound to compete in the mid-'80s scene with heavy hitters like the Gap Band, One Way, O'Bryan, and Ready for the World. From that angle, "That's the Way I Like It" might've held them back instead of pushing them forward because, from a composition standpoint, it sounds more like Slave's earlier works and not fresh and new. Looking back at the '80s, it was a period when a lot of major groups from the '70s were experimenting with new sounds, trying to adapt to the evolving musical landscape. Slave were likely doing the same, figuring out their place in this new era. Despite any critiques, "That's the Way I Like It" is a track I value and keep in my collection.🤟

Thank you so much for your thoughts on this song CL.....Yes I agree that it would have been better on the Bad Enuff set. it really didn't GEL well with New Plateau. A great B side for sure.. The lineup still had a lot of cats involved when I was there though. There were 8 of us with the help coming from the Great Kenni Hairston, CeDell Carter and Curt Jones. It could have gone really far but the record company never promoted us. Also I was supposed to be on the back Picture with the Original Trio of Mark Adams Danny Webster and Floyd Miller. I co-wrote a LOT more songs on this set but no credit was given there ....................For EZ LOvin you / Forever Mine and Share Your love. Anyway it was an incredible and historical recording for me to be involved with these powerhouse greats. I can always be extremely proud of this album , The first and my unique time spent with Slave.Thank you for your precious comments Bruh.

This is my final song singing lead vocals with Slave. It was done at the last minute and really wasn't strong enough to make it on to "New Plateau" Which was my last album with this superGroup. I love these guys Forever man!
