I can’t watch Eagles anymore. The Parents never step in to stop a fight even if they have plenty of food. Then they keep ignoring the younger one.

Happy ending!! Instead of being attacked or eaten. The chick was adopted by the eagles and fed for three weeks alongside the two larger eaglets.

A couple months after this, about a week after both eaglets fledged, a limb supporting the nest broke with the eaglets on it. Fortunately both eaglets were unharmed and the parents continued bringing food to them on the ground or in other trees. Eventually in early August both eaglets left the nest area and began their own journeys. We wait now to see if mom and dad will build a new nest in the area.

Raptor Resource Project news from the nests! Excerpts: July 25, 2024: Are DN17 and DN18 on walkabout? Have DN17 and DN18 started walkabout? Although our camera operators have been looking, we haven’t seen DN17 since July 18th - just as we were gathering for ATF - and DN18 since July 20. While the Decorah nestlings we attached transmitters to didn’t tend to disperse until early September, they started wandering more widely about 30 days post-fledge and began spending more nights away from home. We’ll keep looking for them, since it wasn’t uncommon for our wanderers to return
