I saw them during their Soft Bulletin tour in Cincinnati at a bar. It was flipping amazing. He had a gong. Robin Hitchcock opened for them. It was a phenomenal night.

Not sure why YT ŵanted me to see this video now, out of nowhere, but here we are. Fall of the House of Usher is a magnificent piece of work... I LOVE this series SO much, I must have watched it about 5 times, everytime I watched it I'm amazed and see new things. From the cinematopgraphy to the soundtrack, to the casting, its just PERFECT. The way 'Verna' reads City in the Sea gives me chills EVERYTIME. Also a fan of Poe and how macabre he is.

I never considered young Roderick as an innocent. More like a victim and, to me, victims are not an innocent. Victims are more apt to become abusers through their survival strategies. Maddie and Roderick were victims of abuse by both parents and foster parent system. Maddie was the survivor and Roderick the fighter. When Verna made her proposal, Maddie seemed to be a bit more apprehensive than her brother. She decided to practice birth control by using an IUD. Roderick never cared about his bloodline. He had already started to see his children as bothersome with needs that he could not fully provide unless he compromised his dreams (selling out ligadone for $500 and a crappy promotion). Tamerlane was the focus of the kinky sex scene. Bill was focused on fulfilling her needs of the Tamerlane substitute. It was when Verna stepped into the role. She flipped the script that revealed Tamerlane’s character which was her inability to empathize with others. Juno was the one who chipped away at the sadness in Tamerlane.

Exactly, great point about the hair raising scare of the Haunting of the Hill House, some of the scenes are so scary that I wouldn't dare to watch again; whereas though Usher has jump scares, they don't scare you that much that you could close your eyes at night.

I found myself relating to older Roderick as he slowly comes to terms with how his choice would do to him. His arc of realizing what losing your entire lineage and legacy, himself to be taken away piecemeal in the worst way. The cold, dank heavy burden it does to your soul and your physical body. When he was young and not even thinking far enough ahead for his fuck it ,let's go, no worries.. Even with his already having 2 children ,let alone his further passing the buck piling more on the back end never crossed his mind. His drinking only makes the hangover of enduring the long term effects of possibly feeling empathy for not only his 2 kids born and having their futures forsaken, but choosing to condemn 4 more and even the grandchild. So I feel his heart turning into a heavy iron cracking and how it starts slowly and then becomes exponentially accelerated and more devastating as it whips back like a rubberband or perhaps a swinging pendulum would be more suitable. How he was being bored out from inside and out like the Termites hollowed their childhood House. The ultimate Midlife Crisis of regret and how sad it was to him seeing His Annabelle and how his choice was not limited to him but everyone he ever touched. There is so many layers here and I felt him having nothing left and looking to the Raven/Verna for mercy and for his granddaughter..Not her too , not like the others. Because once they ferry across the plane she will like all before her would now know why all of this befell them and how the freedom of Agency over their lives and destiny were stripped from them, but for 5 at least it was never in their hands from conception. . I'll say one more thing I thought was cool was how the younger Madeline and Roderick had studied and made sure they spoke with the same as their older counterparts. Down to the way they delivering their speech down to even their breaths. I guess that would just be so.eone doing a spot on impersonation of someone down to their body language .. A really good discussion you did here you two I'm gonna click a like and Sub in with a few jingles on 🛎.. I love Midnight Mass only because I went in cold without knowing what I was even gonna get into. The characters and deep discussions on Religion and philosophy of life and death were really aligning with how I think and even discussing many of the same topics in my past with my cousin and a few of my friends who were open to talk about things that many just don't wish to look behind that many curtains and the fraudulent wizards behind them..Most just want to watch the game or hop in the pool. So yeah, I think House of Usher was equally as good but It was a much bleaker feeling coming from this and I think that is true to Poe s tone and was very effortlessly taking these Gothic ,depressing timeless stories and achieving that same dreadful feeling in your gut just like a reading Poe s work on a stormy evening alone.. It modernized it as well so even younger generations can understand it and not be bored to death thinking about Horse carriages and Castles and lighting the study with a candle and all of that. I think it was the best written of Flanigan s as well as best paced.. Anyways take care of yourselves.

Great analysis - Roderick's decision condemning future generations relates a lot to some of the issues that face society today (opioids, environment, even global conflict)...and yes, totally agree how impressive it was to get the younger/older Madeline and Roderick were so in sync, really made it easy to believe they truly were their counterparts grown old. Thanks for the like/sub - let us know if there's other stuff you'd like for us to do an ep on in the future!

I have never finished a show / season only to go back to episode 1 of the same season the very next day. It came out in 2014 same as interstellar…. I’m kicking myself why only in 2023 I came off age to watch these. The universe works in mysterious ways

The terrible impression never sat right with me, and it doesn't now, asking me to lie to you and say it's better than insulting. I don't like it. You might wind up tied up with Ginger in that ditch. Do I strike you as a talker or a doer?
