How do you know that the lakers are the one that waited to target him? Did you ever think that they contacted Dan, and Dan just never gave them an inkling that he wanted to leave UCONN…. Then weeks go by, and Dan contacts the Lakers again saying “hey I’m ready to listen to your offer.” Why do people have to make it more complicated than that? People just don’t make decisions about uprooting their entire family, instantly.

Dan Hurley is unlike most. He values loyalty, home and developing young non-prima Donna kids over money. He values his players and 3-peat potential to one day be the best in college rivaling Woden. I lean his returning to Storrs. If this were 5 to 7 years from now, I would feel a lot differently. But I don’t think the timing is not right for him and his own mind.

Better than 98% odds they promote one of the assistants. It's the correct decision. Will keep the roster together. And if it doesnt work out, you just fire them and shoot for the next Calhoun/Hurley/Geno

@edwardreynolds3242 Күн бұрын
Yes I don’t see a scenario where it’s not Kimani Young. Maybe Luke Murray. UConn needs to do everything they can to keep the current roster together. I think a hire from within is the only choice. Plus I don’t see Hurley leaving for the Lakers and then leaving UConn in shambles like when he took over 6 years ago. Listening to Karaban talk about how much Young helped him when he arrived at UConn. Young seems like the best candidate to replace Hurley.

Hurley would be better off staying at UConn. He’s mastered the NIL system and the transfer portal. He’s rebuilt UConn into an even bigger powerhouse than they were before. Plus he’s a great coach. Going to LA has very little upside and a bottomless pit of downside. Yes he’ll make more money but he’s not going to be able to coach these guys and build and rebuild teams like he has been. I’m a UK fan and remember Pitino getting his ass handed to him in Boston. Calipari struggled and had to come back to college. Billy Donovan looks like a neutered puppy on the sideline of Chicago compared to the animated version we remember at Florida. You think UK’s fan base is hard on coaches. You are jumping into the fire there. I wish him success. My fear is that in 3 years he’s going to be back to college and coaching in the SEC.

I guess there are a lot of fake coaches out there because almost every college coach would jump at an NBA opportunity. More money, less responsibility, no transfer portal, no NIL. UConn already has the head coach in waiting on staff. They are most likely going to promote associate head coach Kimani Young. He’s an elite recruiter and if you listen to Hurley talk about how great he is at developing a game plan you already see someone ready to sustain what Hurley built over the last 6 years. Also people seem to not understand that what made UConn great was Dan Hurley having the willingness to evolve by becoming more offensive minded. Hurley didn’t create the Top 5 offense. Luke Murray built the offense learning from different league and levels of basketball all over the world. Hurley isn’t going to allow the program he built to implode. Young is far more prepared to run a program like UConn than Ollie ever was.
