I think the white smoke that occurs in the MH-60M on the far right is due to oil mixing into the fuselage. Or can you provide another explanation?

Either a little fuel or possibly oil pooled in the bottom of the turbine. Likely fuel.

Looks like an engine drain is clogged. I agree, probably residual fuel from the previous shutdown

Actual start up is not orchestrated here. Being a AD2 on these, your world is different, its your baby. You sign your life to make make sure these people get back from a mission. MC and QA also trust you as a CDIQAR. This start up was perfect but not the full process. One of these days you might respect the MH53e as a creature that you can tame, but never put a leash on. Its a marvel of engineering.

It's the only channel where I enjoy every video I watch. It is very exciting to see the 160th SOAR teams up close. I'm just wondering, do they use this airport only as a refueling point or do they have another mission purpose?
@AEROWEPHILE

Thanks for watching @serkansaygin! Lots more to come. The 160th SOAR typically stop at TRI for about an hour to allow the crews to rest and to refuel their aircraft. TRI is located near the mid-way point between Ft. Campbell and the NC Coastline. They travel back and forth on an irregular basis. I haven't been able to discover a pattern to their travel plans. If there is more to their stops at TRI, I am unaware of it. Cheers!

Very cool footage, I've always had a fascination with all military aircraft since I was a kid, but particularly with the helos, and even more particularly the Night Stalkers. I recently watched an interview on the Shawn Ryan show with Alan Mack (he flew Chinooks for the 160th in Tora Bora, operations Anaconda and Redwings, among many others) and he described the different variants of the Chinooks from the 47A (Vietnam era) all the way to the MH-47E he was flying in his career with the Night Stalkers...that dude's flown (and crashed) in some hairy stuff! But do you know if the MH-47G is now the latest and greatest version? Seems that way if you're going alphabetically. Anyways, thanks for the awesome footage, I suppose I've watch enough videos by now I might as well subscribe. 👍 Cheers!!!

Hello @MrStkrdknmibalz9799. Thanks for checking out my videos. Lots more to come! The MH-47G is the latest version of the Chinook that I am aware of. But will all things aviation and military connected, another new version is likely in development at the moment. Cheers!

There is a very good reason for this difference. These are MH-60M Black Hawks used by the US Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). These birds have quite a few capabilities that your general UH-60 Black Hawk does not possess. Most notable is the refueling boom coming out of the front of the helicopter. Check out this link for more detailed information on the differences between the two Black Hawk versions - www.quora.com/What-are-the-main-differences-between-the-normal-UH-60-Black-Hawk-and-the-MH-60-series. @AEROWEPHILE
@AEROWEPHILE 22 күн бұрын
It is the symbol used by the US Navy - Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 12 (HELMINERON 12) HM-12 'Sea Dragons' squadron. They are based out of Norfolk, VA, and are the US Navy Fleet Replacement Squadron for the MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter. I couldn't find specific information on why they used the lightning bolt. But it does appear on all of the HM-12 helicopters. Hope this helps. Cheers!

last training I did with Americans. Was CSAR from Mildenhall Uk. Climbing up a rope ladder into the back of MH53. Daytime. Then at night! quite an experience. the noise fumes and downdraft. Plus the fact there was no safety line. All good fun back in the day. Amazing helicopter. Aircrew and heli pilots has to be the best job in the world. Nice video.

Unfortunately WW3 ended before they got airborne. Why did they take so long to fire up a helicopter that flew only a few hours ago? Why did they need to taxi out before lifting off?
@AEROWEPHILE
@AEROWEPHILE Ай бұрын
This helicopter is being prepared for the first flight of the day. It has sat overnight at Tri-Cities Airport after completing the pre-race flyover at the Food City Dirt Race at Bristol Motor Speedway the day before. You may not be aware, but the CH-53 requires 44 maintenance hours per flight hour. That's a lot of time spent ensuring the helicopter is ready to fly safely. As for why it has to taxi out before taking off, You must remember that helicopters share the airport with numerous other aircraft, vehicles, and personnel. All have to be moved around in a coordinated fashion. A couple of reasons I have heard via Air Traffic Control. Airport traffic is heavy and ATC does not want the helicopter to overfly any other aircraft or personnel on the ground (ramp hands, grass mowers, etc). Another is that the helicopter crew wants to take off into the wind and the runway is the easiest path to take. Hope this helps explain things. Cheers!

This Sea Dragon made the pre-race flyover at the Food City 500 NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway the day before this video. I met the crew in Victory Lane, and the pilot asked for some race decals for his helicopter. I was happy to provide him with two Food City 500 decals, which he placed on the Sea Dragon the next morning. It was a thrill to be there and capture their departure from Tri-Cities Airport. Cheers!
