That would have been way better just rust treated and left as was, and made into a lamp, so the light could shine thru.

I'm trying to figure out what you did other than what appeared to be a very crude waste of time with nothing accomplished in the end. This is not meant to be critical but what did you really do. The barrel was in fact severely pitted about 7" forward of the chamber. You could have put it between centers in a lathe and turned it but perhaps not leaving too much metal. Point being is I truly don't understand what you did other than make a video. I have been restoring firearms for well over 50 years and this is not how it is done. Oh well. Don't know what this video was for or what it accomplished. Take care.

very unacurate about the color it is acutally a shade of gray called feld grau the wehrmacht stahlhelmets were not green

After heating, you need to dip it in the bucket with cold water almost instantly, or metal can get softer

Now thats a challeng to overcome, in the 70s i had an 03 sprg battle field find, it was a lot more rusty, i ended up replacing everything except the rcvr, for $5 & got it shooting again. The old sporter stock was .50 cents. I saw a challenge & had to overcome it😊

@@KingSquidWarthunderнаверное имелось ввиду что не хватает ложа и затвора. Это всё равно что каску отреставрировать без подшлемника...

@@alextro7255 так смысл реставрации в том, что бы глубоко почистить и заворонить(в данном случае) предмет. А ложе и затвор - дело второстепенное, все, таки не всегда просто найти запчасть подходящую по состоянию и цене. Поверь, я сам занимаюсь такими предметами.

@@KingSquidWarthunder как ты копанину не глубоко чисть и не ворони... копанина останется копаниной. Поэтому считаю что все эти приколы с воронением на большого любителя. Что касается чистки... ну да, почистил до металла, покрыл маслицем и достаточно. В конце концов, если уж хочется воронение, чтоб было всё прям по феншую... не проще ли купить складской экземпляр? Да, дорого. Но это лучше чем любоваться на раковины с воронением. Тут уж кому что...

@@alextro7255 тут я согласен, копанина всегда остается копаниной, опять же зависит от тооо, в каклм сохране копанина, но все же чернение имхо выглядит лучше чем белый металл, темболее с достойным воронением, это даже предотвратит некоторую коррозию. В конце концов складской экземпляр нужно ещё поискать, к тому же, не у всех есть большой бюджет на такие вещи..

Incorrectly called a K98. It's actually a Kar 98k or K98k, Karabiner 98k! Must say, it's a great job you have done!

Its a nice outcome (well done) but why didn't you use a former (a support) inside the helmet to add strength and shape when applying the putty? To be honest I am a novice in metal repair, stabilisation and restoration. If it can't be welded, fettled or soldered it's beyond my capabilities so I hope you don't feel my question is being critical of your technique.

I just ordered one of these on ebay. Looks beautiful but I do hope the helmet was in better original shape than this one. I know conditions vary ALOT.

probably not, the helmet in the old state would probably have rotted away in a few years. due to this restauration it is a perfect helmet for people who like to do reenactment so it is actually worth more probably
