I have watched this couple and others for years. THe ability to lead is quite a challenge. The ability to follow is the ability to trust one's feelings and intuition -- from the lead. As my first instructor - a most wonderful and talented natural dancer said to me: "Any mistake that you make, that is your fault. Any mistake that your partner makes that is your fault. You didn't lead her correctly nor prevent her from going astray. The sooner you understand and accept this, the better a dancer you'll be." 1994!. I eventually accepted and learned that lesson. changed everything. The best thing I ever learned in dance. I had the distinct pleasure to teach a woman (If I can call myself qualified to teach anything in dance) that had never danced ANY kind of dance in her life. None. I was stunned to hear that. Not even "fast dancing" of the 60's and afterward. Yet she was THE most natural "follower" - as some women prefer to be referred to - that I ever danced with. One time at a big room at a church, there were well over 100 people on the dance floor at any time - crowded. There was a young girl about 9 or 10 who was doing quite a show as a natural follower, in dancing with her older brother maybe 12 or 13 who was not as natural but he was game. She was following even his off-the-beat "(mis) leads". EVERYONE was watching this wonderful spectacle. Then a waltz came on and my partner (above) and I got on the dance floor only to find it was mobbed and movement around the floor was virtually impossible. So I said I'll dance us out the double-doors to the foyer where there were no people and a lot of space. As we entered this empty space, I saw my brother and his wife taking a break as we danced by - and my partner told me to look across the way to the other exit door to that foyer. There was that young girl. She was watching my partner - the best natural dancer on that floor that night. And she noticed this specialness across a crowded floor of adults much taller than her. But clearly she was impressed with my partners flow and had to get a closer look. I convinced my partner to go speak with her. I said "She is timidly acknowledging how good a dancer you are. This is the daughter you never had. Go acknowledge HER as well." She did. They talked. A woman in her late 50's and learning to dance, talking with a young girl about 9 about dance and both telling the other how special their dancing was. This was THE highlight of my dancing experience and a most special occasion on the meaning of being human. The waltz was our favorite. I watched Mirko's video's a LOT hoping to learn even a tiny bit of what they do. It was a wonderful journey.

The beginning and ending parts in this Waltz piece are like the counterparts in their Slow Foxtrot performance. It is such a pleasure to watch both performances! It is difficult for me to fathom there are indeed such good dancers.
