Bought mine last year. 1.1 GTa 8v carbed 5spd, engine had seized got her deliverer to where i live and over the last year have been slowly rebuilding the engine. Nearly done now thank god, seizure was caused by some twat driving her into a curb and then trying to JB weld a hole in the oil pan, leaked ran without oil dumped heat into the shell bearings and killed it lol

Hello bud. I actually do but it has to wait a bit longer. I've to do an engine swap on my cooper cabby first and I've just gotten our 1.4 diesel r50 ready for daily usage. Expect a video end of January. I've a big decision to make with rust to sort, or scrap and replace it

Such a good video thank you for making it. Im going to be attempting to service my FL2 in the next couple of weeks. The only thing Im slightly worried about doing is the fuel filter. Just to clarify do you usually fit the filter empty and then fill it with fuel once its in position and all the hoses are connected? Does it matter if air gets into the fuel pipes?

The absolute best way to do it, is have the new one ready to go in. Lift it up, disconnect the bottom pipe, and fit to new one (the transparent one, set in place and then swap the old pipes over as quick as you can. Now with it all in place, remove the level check and using a small funnel, top up the diesel fuel when it place. I recemmend using a small container, eg a 500 ml empty cleaned coke bottle for example, rather than trying to man handle a 5 litre jerry can. Just keep filling it with dribbles and dribbles and when it comes out the top, refit the level check. Then refit everything else as described and when you go to start car first time, sit and prime it several times before engaging the starter for first time. It might take an extra 5 seconds or so to start, but wolla, job done and from that point onwards it will function as it always should until you replace it again.

You put it all together then a day later the water pump starts leaking, bless the magic of the T16 to always leak *something*

The NZ spec models had all the airbags fitted, all of the NZ new cars were Connies too. They're an absolute tank of a vehicle, I've heard about 75's being crashed, and most of the damage is just glass or superficial. The occupants were unharmed.

That's very interesting they where manditory there. I've read reports about iso fix also been required in the Oz or Nz market on them. Ever speed that on the?

@RobsonRoverRepair Yes as far as I'm aware iso fixings are required on all cars, I've never used them personally tho😂 Also I have to correct myself with the airbag statement! Turns out Cowley era cars like my fathers and mine didn't have the side airbags, however, longbridge era pd cars and the V8's have side airbags as standard. Unsure on the MG ZT's as we've only got the Rovers. Rather interesting they had them later on.

Thank you, I have watched loads of KZbin videos on how to replace the fuel filter. Tubes, pumps, clips and bleeding injectors, some of which were not very successful. Tried your method filling the filter with the finger on the outlet pipe on the bottom and boom started first time. Also great tip using the 27mm ratchet wrench on the oil filter.

Am I mad for considering getting another one for my daily driver, I had a 75 tourer last year and it was a great car. Now looking at another CDTI tourer because I miss it, my only concern is I do around 20k per annum. Funnily enough it’s also a 2003 white gold tourer 😂

Personally I'd seriously look at a seat exeo tourer with the 2.0 and dsg box. I'd find it hard to encourage someone to run a 20 plus year old car doing that miles a year. Especially with the ease of vw parts and you can pick up a cheap one for sub £3000 that's half the age etc.
@KunaiZR
@KunaiZR 5 ай бұрын
@@RobsonRoverRepairYeah that’s fair enough, I was more considering this particular car because it has done just under 72k miles. Has excellent history and is in very good condition, I’d only plan to use it for a max of 2 years, I will have a look into the SEAT you mentioned though.

@KunaiZR honestly it's not the miles now it's the years. 22 year old hoses, under body, all sorts. It's hard to predict what can fail on them unless you spend time on it. Plus the second it's in a bump it will be written off. Especially rear end. Honestly even I find it hard to daily rover's now which is why I've the Mini & Freelander as mixed alternatives to support them.
