I’m in Australia and was diagnosed at 56, I’m 58 now and luckily medication makes me look like I’m perfectly fine. I’m grateful for the time I have like this as I know it will change for the worse at some stage. My support group is also a fantastic place for help and learning to understand the disease.

Collette the story about your mom is very interesting to me because my mom also collected the Mountie quarters like your mom did. In fact my mom’s collection did not only stop growing but got smaller as time went on. The mystery of the disappearing quarters, how interesting!

Thank you for sharing! Our stories are shockingly similar. I, too, married a man that was not willing/able to be a provider and leader in a home. He had lots of pretty things to say about what he was going to do, but his actions never followed and I learned I could never count on him. My father took me aside after we got engaged and said, “You will be the one supporting him.” He warned me not to marry him, but I refused to listen because I loved him and was going to fix him. Codependency is so destructive. We were married for 20 exhausting, stressful, maddening years. We went to therapy and it was our therapist’s opinion that he had narcissistic personality disorder, and she said I was co-dependent. I spent years learning what those things meant and learning about the importance of setting boundaries. The 20 year marriage and responsibilities and pressures on me took an incredible toll on my health and I ended up with an autoimmune disorder and adrenal fatigue. Wr had two children and the toxic environment has left difficult wounds for them as well. I tried to divorce him for lots of years, but every time I would try he would fight like a tiger to convince me I was wrong and we needed to stay together. I finally broke free in 2018 and began my healing journey. Got brought a man into my life with 3 little kids that I enjoy so much! We are partners in every way and he has taught me so much about how to set healthy boundaries. I don’t know where I would be without him. We married in April of this year. I saw that in order for me to have the kind of life that I wanted to have, my life would have to be torn down, then rebuilt. It was like starting over on a home. I remember standing in the rubble of my old life feeling so hopeful and knowing it was going to take time to clear away the mess and begin rebuilding. My husband had a similar situation and we are rebuilding together. It is so amazing to be building with a partner with whom I am equally yoked. It’s like God heard my anguished prayers all of those years and handed my desires to me in a lovely platter. I’m so happy for you that you are getting the desires of your heart as well. God is good!

So amazing to hear how things have come together for you. No matter how much the locusts have destroyed, God is able to restore. “So, I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten …” ~ Joel 2:25
