Sorry, but this is a poor demonstration. Most people would just clip their lanyard onto the limb and then move their climbing system. This technique would be handy if you had to work out and under the limb and could release your system from far away. And work the opposite side of the canopy. I bought a secret weapon 9 months ago for that very scenario. The secret weapon slowly degraded from my saddle to my climbing bag to the hook in the box of the chipper truck. The closet is next...

Tree motion might be expensive, but it has a ten year service life. Petzel is only 5! TMPro also has better leg catches, solid rings (not with screws) for all the important points. Have you noticed how Petzel/lyon have so many recalls?
@BartlettArboristSupply2 күн бұрын
The Petzl Sequoia also has a 10 year life, just like the TreeMOTION Pro. As far as having screws, the TreeMOTION Pro also has rings with screws at the hip D location.

Great video. Just getting started. If I can’t reach the tree because of a lean or weird union do I have to use foot locks or another sling (prussic)for my foot?
@BartlettArboristSupply12 күн бұрын
There are a couple techniques one could apply. You could walk close to the spar and apply your lanyard, then hip thrust into the crown and advancing your lanyard as you ascend. Another way to get up there, using ascenders to assist during the ascent. And then, foot locking would prove the most efficient, if SRT is out of the picture.

@WascallyWabbits12 күн бұрын
@@BartlettArboristSupply looking forward to that video! Thanks for the advice I will apply it, it’s definitely easier said than done, especially when it’s new to the climber. The vertical limb with no handles is a common theme I’ve noticed when climbing ash trees and especially honey locusts. It’s been very challenging to overcome quickly

I'd like to put that notch on my belt
@timgrant179614 күн бұрын
If you use a foot ascender, it should NEVER kick out by accident. That could be a life-threatening situation. It cannot be good to require perfect technique to avoid danger. I am tossing my Notch Jet Step for that reason. It works well and is good on the rope, but it kicks out way too easily and when I'm 20+ feet off the ground and away from the tree and dodging limbs, it's just too much to expect perfect form to prevent a kick out and subsequent problems, especially when carrying saws and other heavy equipment.
@BartlettArboristSupply13 күн бұрын
A foot ascender or knee ascender should not be considered life support and you shouldn't be relying on it to hold you up. Those ascenders are meant to aid us on our ascents. There is always meant to be a primary ascending/work positioning system configured correctly on that rope and attached back to the harness.
@timgrant179613 күн бұрын
@@BartlettArboristSupply I certainly agree with all that, which is why I use a doubled system with backup. That does not solve the problem of kicking out at random moments.

Sweet! You guys should reall think about investing in some insta360 action cameras, they're super small, fit in the palm of your hand, cost next to nothing (under $100), film in ->8k<- and film in 360°. You put one on your chest harness or shoulder or helmet, one on a stick, and one to toss back and forth between you and the cameraman or whoever you're working with. It's a little extra work in the editing but you can show way more of the setup and get much more technical.

So none of you use a crossbow/compound bow ? I use a bow and arrow with the arrow head being a 50g weight that sits loosely on the shaft. The shaft is tethered by a loose string that i just stand on, so it falls to the ground shortly after release. The weight continues up into the tree with throw line attached. It's a good setup for tight windows and trees with lots of foliage down low - I live in an evergreen belt. Recently tried using a drone with a snag release with ok success, the highest branches can be accurately accessed, but yeah, wouldn't want to get it stuck 😀
