I absolutely love your work. As a yogi, spiritual teacher, and lifelong lover of horses, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the way you weave spiritual principles into your horsemanship. It’s truly beautiful and so needed. Your Shorts have been popping up in my feed recently, and they’ve been such a delight-thank you for sharing those. They’re such a great way to connect with your teachings in a quick, impactful way. I’ll admit, I don’t always have the time to sit with the longer videos, but when I do, they’re so rich with insight. This might just be me, but I’d love to see more of those wonderful Shorts, and maybe even some slightly shorter long-form videos. I think that would make it easier for fans like me to dive into your teachings more often. Of course, that’s just my perspective as someone who’s a huge admirer of your work. No matter what direction you go, I’m so grateful for what you’re sharing-it’s truly a gift. I can’t wait to see how your journey unfolds. Maybe one day we’ll all be looking up your website to join a clinic! Thank you for all you do, brother. With deep appreciation, Eddie

Duke is very similar to my younger TWH/SSH...mine has the same sensitivity and impulsion as this guy. I have spent a year working on rating his speed. I am totally relating to this video. One-rein stops were all I did for months. He also was very reactive to just me shifting in the saddle or swinging my legs but not touching him...he would shoot off like a rocket. He now understands that not every moment I make means go. We are getting there and doing it totally bitless in your bridle! Thank you. 😊

Justin. My horse is showing me that the knots on the bridle are too severe for his comfort level. I have checked to make sure it is seated correctly. Is there a way to replace the knots? To be clear I am barely touching the rein and he is doing a lot of reactive head tosses. Any suggestions here? Can it be returned?
@americanmustangschool
@americanmustangschool 16 күн бұрын
@@kelleyabourjaily4594 it’s a possibility/probability that an adjustment is needed. Usually too high on the face, and too tight around the nose. Too many variables to consider for an accurate assessment based on the information provided. Could be, sore tooth? I’ve had one of my horses head toss which wasn’t normal behavior because of a sore tooth. Sinus issues? If your horse has a weather related sinus issue that could be a cause for discomfort. Too much pressure too fast, pulling and horse is looking for a release. Apply pressures in increments, like 1/2 inch and release, wait a few seconds, repeat (for lateral flexion). As your horse learns what the pressure means, and answers/responds quietly, head tossing goes away. If there is an issue with mobility, on one side or the other, that can show up as head tossing. (Stiffness/sourness in the neck/jaw) You could try doing what you’re doing in a halter, another Bitless bridle. Also, make a video of what you’re doing and watch back to see what is happening from a different perspective. If you’re horse never tossed his head with a bit, but does Bitless (in a halter) then there might be some confusion that needs sorted out. It’s possible , your horse could have very sensitive nerves in the face. I will say, the knots have never been an issue on any horse, breed, size, shape thatI’ve played with all over the country. As the knots are elevated by the leather that sits next to them to provide more surface area over that nose band area. However, I have designed a neoprene protective padding that is used for riders that jump or have horses being ridden by beginners that tend to balance on the reins. Contact the distributor on return policy. It’s tough to diagnose an issue online, but I hope I’ve helped you.

Great video. Other question though: Do you think you can overuse lateral flexion? Heard some stories about horses that would constantly lateral flex during a ride. Even when not intended or just trying to steer by reigns. Got me thinking this seems logical. If your most frequently asked question is the lateral flex one, the most frequent answer must be the horse doing a lateral flex. Any thoughts on this?
@americanmustangschool
@americanmustangschool Ай бұрын
Yes, great question. It can be overused just like anything. Once the horse associates something (lateral flexion) with relaxing, comfort, or release of confusion. It will become really important for them. The horse may ask the same question to indicate they are not understanding what is expected. I haven’t had any situations arise where my horses stop on the trail for example. In classes, we do multiple exercises in conjunction with stop exercises, which consist of one rein stops, lateral flexion, vertical flexion, seated stops. However, the one rein stops are paramount in establishing what to do in any uncertain situation for the rider, and the horses will pick up on this too. I would rather have my horses stop, ask lateral flexions in their movements to ask for clarification, than to increase speed in movement. I will say, if one person were to stay with one horse every time, anytime there was any communication, habits are easier to both create, and change. Harley has had over 300 different riders in the past decade. He will ask questions too, lateral flexion is one he will ask! He’s not real experienced with standing in front of a video camera, and I asking him specifically to maneuver in the “frame”. He’s not come out of the trailer without a halter on since day one 12 years ago either. And mustangs know when something is different. In this video, we did things to create a little uncertainty in him, but he did really well, considering. Great question though, because it is important to have a variety of ways to ask our horses to relax, and allow them to think, and process something they are concerned with.
@suurjef5961
@suurjef5961 29 күн бұрын
@americanmustangschool1578 Great way of putting it. The lateral flex can be a question asked by the horse aswell. Also seems very logical. Thank you for taking your time to respond and explain your thoughts. In the Netherlands (where I am living) the concept of a lateral flex is not very known (atleast to my experiences). Matter of fact, the concept of pressure/release/draw is also very unknown. Learning great things from you!

I am curious about your answer to davidoliver9395; these mustangs don't come to you calm and trained, correct? Do you have a video of your process the first time you get a mustang?
@americanmustangschool
@americanmustangschool Ай бұрын
@@DeniseHerinckx no the mustangs I have left came to me untouched. However, the old facebook videos of them are uneventful, as they never did anything undesirable. It’s a misconception that “wild” mustangs need to be gentled. They are gentle, and do not know to fear me, unless I show them to fear me. I can make a video with one of my mustangs that has such a strong survival instinct he will run away from me if I do not present to him correctly. It could be a good way to demonstrate the initial process of creating the relationship. I am planning a video to explain how a video is just a fractal moment in time on a particular horse, and each horse is different. Even in the early days of training a wild one, there would be 8 straight days of smooth interaction and the 9 th day it goes haywire, and then every day for a year things flow smoothly. Which makes it difficult to video what exactly to do in the exact situation for that particular horse. But, I’ll try to create a video to explain the initial process to create the relationship with an untouched horse. Today, I’m mainly focused on coaching people with my team of already established horses. I do get calls for helping with others and their untouched horses, maybe a video opportunity will arise there.

Okay. thanks for commenting. He does have some separation anxiety, which was way more evident in years past. Years ago he would scream, and cry out to the other horses when he would get separated. When I got him out of a really bad situation years ago, he was destined for the slaughter house, as the neglect he had gone through was so horrible he was considered dangerous and never trainable. The day I got him, he bucked like a rodeo bronc! So today, in this video, what you are seeing is much different than what he was before. You have an opinion, that's good. And yes, you could go on and on, based on this video. However, I encourage you to look at other videos with Piper, different situations, weather temps, and exercises, etc.. When you learn all there is to know about horses, (which will take many lifetimes) you'll find that each day is different, some days the horses are mellow, some days they're not. Some days they are anxious, some days lazy, some days are just different than others for whatever reason. That's why horsemanship is so interesting. I hope you can get something valuable from my videos. They do take time and effort to make. I do the videos mostly for myself, to watch and learn how to become better, and so I don't forget. Again, thanks for commenting! Oh, before I forget, do you make horsemanship videos that I could watch and see what you do? Always interested in seeing how someone that criticizes my videos does it.
