Awesome! I'm going to try this on my early Corvair to change it from 4 lug to 5 lug. FYI you can buy a plastic wheel bolt pattern template set on amazon now for $14. It covers all standard and metric sizes.
@richardwilliams5838
@richardwilliams5838 3 жыл бұрын
To change bolts pattern on 4 aluminum rims cost $600 more than you get a set for used so guys learn and do the work yourself you'll save $500 drill bit cost $50 and a punch $8 a drill you can borrow from anywhere hub rings cost like $40 done new wheels without the hassle get old hub from junkyard remove studs center on rim you can even use old holes so you drill less in the rims

So you did the pcd by hand, AND did the centre bore by hand? Did you check your run out afterwards? Seems like it would be pretty imprecise to me.
@therealjoshtodd
@therealjoshtodd 4 жыл бұрын
So you didn't change the bolt pattern of the wheel, as the title says, you changed the bolt pattern of the vehicle. I take it this method would not apply to wheels? I have some wheels that I want to make fit on a vehicle they're not the same bolt pattern of, but I don't want to change the bolt pattern of the vehicle

How did you make sure you drilled the holes straight?
@joeballard3027
@joeballard3027 6 жыл бұрын
Flash635 Practice with the drill if you’re not used to using it. I’ve used a drill a lot so I felt pretty comfortable that I could drill straight thru
@flash6357
@flash6357 7 жыл бұрын
Good job. Having the adapters made it really easy, most people would just stop there. Some suggestions if someone else is doing it. Instead of marking the drill holes with the punch, use a drill that's the same size as the hole that way it will find the centre itself. For reaming the hub hole out I would use a flap wheel on a drill. For cutting the bevel for the brake hub I'd bolt the wheel on inside out (if possible) and run the engine in gear. That would be like a makeshift lathe. You could then use the file to cut the bevel.

In your description, you say don't do this on your own. Why not? Did you have problems afterward. Does the truck feel out of balance? A local shop near me was going to charge $180 drill my hubs and rotors! That was for only the rear.....two wheels!
@miraclemann777
@miraclemann777 7 жыл бұрын
ralph sampson Actually the truck rides pretty smooth. I've been driving this truck every day. Just drove 100 miles today. I didn't check with a machine shop because I felt I had enough experience to do this customization. I just didn't want to give anyone the idea that this customization was just a walk in the park.
