For an epic symphony ending, look no further than Mahler!! As for Beethoven’s #5, my favorite feature is that he brings it almost to an end so many times before it’s over. I love the Shostakovich symphonies as well. 1,5,and 9 have great endings.

Wonderful list! And thank you for including my favorite finale--Mahler no. 8, which for some reason does not get as much love as it should.

Beethoven's third is overrated, I can do something with every of his symphonies except this inflated piece of music.

My all time favorite isn't here. It is the finale to the Firebird Suite. At the end, those chords in the brass over the strings and then that piano up to that double forte knocks my socks off very time!

Maybe in my opinion is not just a beautiful music that we listen to but how the composer made that music with struggle, love and passion...

The problem with Mahler finales is that the true highpoint comes a minute or two before the final notes, followed by a Mahlerian chaos of braying brass and cymbal crashes to the end.

These endings are "epic" because of what led to them. By themselves, they are just loud tuttis.

Beethoven far and away for me. Beethoven could a Mahler symphony or finale if he wanted; no composer could touch what Beethoven did on the 9th

How can u not have Saints organ symphony there I mean like 30 something notes that r just felt not heard at the end. Ludwig should always be #1 bc #9 is the GOAT of ALL music. Thank u for this. Most excellent.

I present to you the arrangement of the assumed Finale for Schuberts "Unfinished" (which he used a few months later in another work) where in the end I pick up the main theme of the 1st movment and transform it to a triumphant and splendid B-major conclusion of the symphony: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmTcgKqQbbR4pNU

Quite a few more come to mind. Mahler 2, the "Resurrection", Bruckner 5 and 8, especially the latter, which could have the greatest coda of them all. And Mozart 4, the "Jupiter" with that unbelievable fugal writing, and that intense but ultimately tragic (?) ending of Brahms 4.
