Thanks to Tami Macala for this MAO Live interview, with my friend Jennifer Kuhns, and to Jennifer for her support and insistence on Laticrete. As an Oregon and Washington based Technical Sales Representative for Laticrete, we appreciate the collaboration with artisans like JK Mosaics and Jennifer, and bringing their projects to life with the use of our products. Cheers!

Thank you! Yes, Laticrete has always been a huge supporter of Mosaic Art and Mosaic Arts Online. Between Jennifer Kuhns and Rachel Sager, Laticrete gets a lot of publicity!

About Jennifer Kuhns I've been working as a professional mosaic artist since about 2005, and I created this channel for my students. But since I have it, I have begun posting short videos about my work, whether it's descriptions and explanations of my wall art, or tips, tricks and snafus, I will post here for anyone who might be interested. I am generally a low-tech person: an introvert living far from society-at-large on 5+ acres with LOTS of animals and two other humans. So, I present as me, as I am. You will rarely see me in my clips and I am definitely not working in heels with my hair done. My life is messy, ruled by poultry, dogs, cats, goats and a teenager. But I am constantly creating, making, working, and sometimes it's interesting to a broader audience.

Can you use this tutorial and use porcelain tile instead? If so how would I use a use a concrete stepping stone set tiles with a thin set mortar instead of a backer board I would like to use porcelain tile vs ceramic as I plan to put outside in my memory garden and was told porcelain tile is best to use if kept outside in the elements as the colorant of the tile goes throughout the tile and it it gets chipped the color is still the same? For porcelain tile cutting tools to use compound nip cutters & pistol grip cutters? I appreciate whatever feedback you can give me before I purchase your course. Thanks!!
@MosaicArtsOnlineАй бұрын
High-fire ceramic tiles work for any weather and traffic. That is what they are designed for. If you need to use porcelain because you want the same body of color all the way through, that is okay, but if you grout your mosaic, that won't matter since the grout will fill in where you would see the tile body. You can use side biter nippers or compound nippers to cut them. Good luck~

Air dry clay tiles will not have the same strength as a ceramic tile that has been fired.

No, you can use any tesserae you like. Stained glass works well too. Depending on the type of tile you are considering, ceramic might be a bit challenging.

We would recommend using whatever wheel nippers you are comfortable with. The Winckelmans tiles are thin and not hard to cut. I would try the new SeaBell line at www.witsendmosaic.com
